    Quality Control...

Just got a UB435-Q ATSC USB tuner last week after using a PVR-150 for the past 2-4 years. Am still using the 150 without any problems recording or transcoding the *.mpg recordings to Xvid using VideoReDo Plus & AGK. On the other hand...using the 435 to record some test programs to do the same thing...I get truncated file times/sizes on the files & out of sync audio. For instance...for a 22 minute program...the time after editing usually reads between 11 to 12 minutes.

From what I understand...any ATSC tuner just records whatever is sent out the transmitter without regard to the quality settings I would setup for the 150. Does anyone have any suggestions on editing/encoding files to get better results?

Well, how does it work with out "videoredo" plus etc etc. Is the file OK?

For instance, comskip worked great for me on analog, but was totally worthless for ASTC. Problem is not with the 435, but with with stuff you are doing to the file.

I've found that no matter which PVR program I use...WMC or GBPVR...I get the same results. The file size & time of the file is truncated according to 7 after processing...but I can play the complete file. Only...the further into the file I get...the more the audio becomes unsynced from the video.

This is what I thought about any digital card. With analog...I could control what settings I wanted the file recorded at.

The digital file is beautiful...but I know others are recording the files they're posting online without these problems happening. The only thing I don't know...whether or not they're using an analog or digital card for the capture.

If the recording is "beautiful", then it's digital... end of story.

Very true...but I have watching idiotic commercials on US TV. If I could catch them from overseas...that would be a totally different matter.

Got the problem figured out about editing the files I record. The problem was the upgraded software I was using...rather than the older version I had used for several years. Reloaded my PVR PC & installed the older version. The timing & the file was right to the second. Tried this with several programs I recorded off air with the ATSC device & the video looked/sounded better than being there.

The moral of the story...stick with what works & don't upgrade just because the file is available.

Now...am wanting another 435-Q to handle the local ATSC stations on 2 different channels & use the 150 for the satellite.
