I've been using NextPVR for years, without any issues for the most part. My configuration: I have an antenna in the attic that is connected to a HDHomeRun Connect tuner, which is connected directly to my wireless router. My PC has a TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 wireless adapter. This setup has worked flawlessly for years.
Recently, most of my recordings are incomplete. A 30-minute or an hour long recorded show will only contain anywhere for few seconds to 10 minutes of video. A few recordings will be complete, but most are incomplete. The NRecord log file shows that the recording was started/terminated at the correct times. I sat at the computer and monitored the recordings one evening, and the NextPVR UI displayed that the shows were being recorded (as well as the NextPVR icon in the system tray... it stayed "red" for the correct amount of time). Those recordings also ended up being incomplete.
I thought the problem was that my Windows 10 computer had gotten sluggish, so I upgraded the RAM and performed a fresh install of Windows 10. Unfortunately, the problem occurred again last night and tonight. The recording of "The Middle" was only 23 seconds, the recording of Modern Family was 10 minutes, 21 seconds, and the recording of Lethal Weapon was 2 minutes, 50 seconds.
The only other change during this time is that I upgraded my wireless router to a Linksys WRT1900ACS (originally had the Linksys AC 1200). The computer is close to the router, and I haven't noticed any connection issues. Again, I've had this setup for several years with the AC 1200 wireless connection with no problems.
I've attached the logs. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Perhaps there are signal strength issues with the antenna. How do they play in the View app. If they are good makes sure your HDHR software has BDA configured for Default or MediaPortal and NOT NextPVR.
Thank you for the reply.
Yes indeed, watching live TV on NextPVR freezes up after watching it for a while. Looking at the HDHomeRun config GUI, the signal strength seems good. The attached "Before" image shows it at 87% with a signal quality of 100%. After watching for a while, the screen will freeze and the Config GUI will display the "Communication Error" message shown in the attached "After" image.
All I have to do to temporarily resolve the issue is change channels. Any ideas on what is going on?
To answer you question, BDA Compatibility Mode is set to Default.
Definitely looks something networky going on, and you're seeing signs of these problems happening in both NextPVR and the HDHomeRun Config GUI. Either the wifi problem, or possibly software interfering with networking (like firewall / antivirus / netnanny type software).
If I understand your original post, your are running the NextPVR server on a PC (laptop?) connected to your router via WiFi. As a debug step, can you attach the laptop directly to the router via Ethernet cable and then see if your recordings still get truncated. If no ethernet port available on your PC maybe try going back to the old router and see if the problem disappears.
