Sorry if this is boring but I thought I should record my findings in case it helps someone else now or in the future.
The machine gun noise is triggered by a reboot of the computer. This can reliably be reproduced on my machine. I think I can also say with some certainty that the noise can be made to go away simply by changing channels on the 150. It then seems to stay away till the next reboot.
Does this suggest that the 150 is not initialising properly? I guess knowing this much I can 'fix' it after a reboot but it would be nice for it not to happen in the first place!
