Hi,

I've dowloaded VLC from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ however I'm unable to playback any of the recordings made via GB-PVR. VLC launches but there's no video or audio.

Clicking on 'play' for example opens an m3u file (open with: vlc.exe), clicking on 'ok' opens VLC Media Player however there's no video or audio (and the m3u file that's opened (from C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp) is only a small fraction of the recording. Let's say 1-minute long for a program that's approximately 1-1/2-hours long.

The program itself that's been downloaded into C:\ opens and plays without problems using Real Player and GB-PVR itself.

Do some codecs need to be downloaded or are there adjustments that need to be made in the web-interface config page?.

Thank you for your suggestions.
Kind Regards Smile.
Are you by any chance recording in the dvr-ms format?

At this time VLC can not play that file format.....try mpeg instead.

Let me know if this was it.....

Hi UncleJohnsBand,

Thank you for your reply. Think that I probably am recording programs in dvr-ms format. Where do I need to check this, in the GB-PVR Config or Web-Interface config/set-up?.

Thank you Smile.
Can't help you there.....I just know that some people have been recording in that format....I think Windows Media Center defults it to this.

Perhaps someone else here knows what needs to be set to record in mpeg?
just look at the file extension of one of your recordings. If you've not specifically gone about changing to mpeg, then you probably are using dvrms.

I couldn't believe how well VLC worked over slow connection. So quick. Changed to DVR-MS so now doesn't work Sad had to because MPEG was havign a few issues.
I don't know if this article would help people or not....found it on MSDN.....there is a section about a converter for Windows Media Center (Putting WmvConverter to Use section) That appears to allow you to convert the dvr-ms format to wmv which VLC should be able to stream.......
I just saw that a "new" VLC (beta) is out it claims to have partial dvr-ms support.

Interesting....someone that records in dvr-ms should give it a try.....I know I read some threads a couple of months ago that "partial" support was read/play only....no transcode/stream.....not sure if this beta will offer transcode of dvr-ms so that it can be streamed.
