Before Christmas I installed GBPVR version 0.2311 and the MVP worked "most" of the time - I had the once a week "looking for servers" screen. I then installed version 0.2313 and things got slightly worse, say 2 or 3 times a week.

Since i've installed 0.908 it's much worse. It mostly happens when watching videos, from any of the plugins including the supplied from sub ones. It can be a few minutes into a programme or more than an hour into a film. Having said that it can happen when playing music or viewing pictures but less frequently.

When it happens it looks for servers for several minutes but if I turn the MVP off then on it takes 10 seconds or so.

Over the past few days I have tried lots of things including some of the registry changes suggested in this forum. These are the registry changes I've made:

REGEDIT4

Can anyone spot an error in the above?

I resorted to putting the original hauppauge MVP software back on and it works well. It is like this now but I have to keep starting and stopping the MVP services to use the MVP.
I point the video directory to the recordings directory from GBPVR.

Any help appreciated...
Thanks for the reply.

The MVP can access the PC and runs the GBPVR GUI.

I can navigate the menus but it seems like when it comes to some serious activity like playing video/music it keeps randomly losing contact and then searching for the PC again. There is nothing reported in the event logs.

I do keep starting/stoping the appropriate services for the different pieces of software.

Is there some kind of "sync" signalling exchange between the GBPVR software and the MVP and if the MVP doesn't get it, it starts searching for servers again - a bit like an "I am alive and OK" message between the two. Is the GBPVR software not responsive enough to service the MVP "I am alive" in the appropriate timeslot (if you see what I mean).

I dont think it can be the PC - its a P4 2.8GHz Prescott with 512Mb memory - should be man enough for the task.
I am finding similar problems.

.908 is MUCH more unstable on my MVP than .2311.

If I click on select TV GUIDE, my MVP will disconnect and reconnect displaying the TV GUIDE, this also happens for other plug-ins as well.

My LIVE TV acts strangely as well. Sometimes I can switch channels, other times I get a big black OSD square with one number appearing (from the 3 digit channel I entered) at at time.

I'm also restarting the service more often and have yet to schedule a sucessful Recording.

I wish I could have stayed with .2311, however, the TV GUIDE no longer works. It was very stable.

Other than having IRBlaster support and a working TV GUIDE, I can't find much to like.
Hi again
GBPVR.exe (MVP Service)  3MBytes with MVP running
GBPVRTray.exe  4.5MBytes
GBPVRRecordingService   6.5MBytes
GBPVR.exe (On PC)  188MBytes

I haven't installed any software nor changed any hardware since Christmas.
I did build the PC myself, do it as a bit of a sideline for friends and relatives. The MOBO can handle it but I only overclock when playing games as it gets really hot - 66 Degrees C.

I am running a router but it has never caused problems before. I tried doing as you said (reset etc.) but no different.
I also played Solitaire via the MVP for about an hour earlier this evening, just as a test you understand, without problems.
I did notice that when I play videos through the MVP, stop doesnt work. Pressing stop causes a black screen and the MVP to just hang. None of the buttons on the remote do anything except for power off/on. This happens whether I play a few minutes of video or hours.
I dont have these problems when playing videos on GBPVR on the PC.

Forgot to mention the Ping tests I did. Lots and lots, and then ran it for 10 minutes in one go and it didn't error once. Approximate Round Trip times all came back as 0 milli seconds.

Still having MVP trouble - keeps losing contact with the server and starts looking for one

I have notived an error sequence in the gbpvr.exe.log file - anyone have any ideas?

It's a D3A - does this make a difference?
I had this problem check your firewall settings, windows updated sometime last week that reset the firewall.
There is a newer version of the MVP software on hauppauge.com that is supposed to correct for the windows firewall issue. I was having some issues of clarity with the OSd but I installed the new software and all is well again.
Hi All,
I've been having this problem for sometime so I don't think it's a recent firewall issue from a microsoft patch. Having said that I guess it could be, what do I know. I already have mediamvp_2.4.23038.exe installed, is this what you guys mean? Is there a difference between this and mediamvpsetup_2_4_23038_web.zip. The versions are the same so I wouldn't think so.

I'll give this a try: I'll turn off all firewalls, maybe disable my internet connection just in case and disable virus checking on my PC. Basically anything that can slow things down or get in the way. Since I don't know when things are going to stop working it's a difficult fault to track down.

I may try re-installing XP and doing a fresh install of GBPVR, that's a weekend job though! and I have it set up pretty much how I want it. Maybe my PC is getting slower, I defrag the HDD about once a month but again that maybe the problem.
Interesting fault Smeghead describes ... my MediaMVP based set up does a very similar thing *sometimes* when I press Stop ... black screen ... searches for servers ... main menu.  I have the same MVP firmware too ... mine also started doing this a while back (before the XP firewall changes) ...
This seems like it may be GB-PVR, not my set-up, I'll try and get some logs to post.
