I have been noticing working trailers are being downloaded less and less.

Of 13 MOV files, 4 do download, the other 9 appear in the trailers folder but are only 26kb in size.

Looking in the logs and researching the Dave's Trailer Page website it scrapes trailers from, I am finding small differences and it appears this could be the whole problem.

For example,Couples Retreat

What ICL is asking for from Dave's Trailer Page

http://movies.apple.com/movies/universal..._h640w.mov

Actual Trailer location

http://movies.apple.com/movies/universal..._h.640.mov

Notice the difference in the web address?

Another example, Gamer

What ICL is asking for from Dave's Trailer Page
http://movies.apple.com/movies/lionsgate..._h640w.mov

Actual Trailer Location
http://movies.apple.com/movies/lionsgate..._h.640.mov

Consistent difference with the first example.

It appears Dave's Trailer Page is not making the correct addresses for trailers from apple.com. The ones from playlist.yahoo.com are the only ones working.

Attached are my logs.

The only movies of all these that worked were:

Inglourious Basterds.mov for example http://playlist.yahoo.com/makeplaylist.d...=web&pt=rd
Jennifer's Body.mov
Love Happens.mov
The Stepfather.mov

All the above are from Yahoo.com

The ones that are 26kb in size, which do not play are:
All About Steve.mov
Couples Retreat.mov
Fame.mov
Gamer.mov
Law Abiding Citizen.mov
Surrogates.mov
Where the Wild Things Are.mov
Whip It.mov
Zombieland.mov

All of these are from Apple.com with bad links so they are corrupt.
Another good spot snooze. The plugin is (currently) rather reliant on Dave's Trailer Page getting the links right. If you can keep an eye on it and if it carrys on for too long then I'll have to think about what the options are.
Although I've just noticed this on the news page:

Quote:19th Oct: Over the weekend a very helpful reader pointed out that Apple links are once again working without the user-agent change when using the old url modification. I've changed all the links again so what that means in basic terms is all the trailers on the site now work no matter how you are downloading them.

Has this fixed it for ICLP?
One hour is too long with your great plugin! I just checked again, still the same results (updating nightly). Do you know anyone at Dave's Trailer Page you could make them aware that their linking is broken? Saving you tons of work Smile
Oh, I just checked their page and they are aware of it

Ha, your quicker than I!

When I go to http://www.apple.com/movies/universal/co..._h640w.mov in Firefox it starts playing the trailer. What do you get?

I remember Apple having a mov file which just acted like a link to the real mov file. What I don't remember is if I wrote any code to get around it. Will take a look when I'm back at my dev machine.

Yes, in firefox that link now works, it did not when I originally posted this. It appears they fixed their problem as they said in the news we both quoted. Smile

A note to anyone watching this thread, I had to manually delete the old 26kb file size ones since I have it set to keep trailers for 14 days (maybe that is too long? suggestions?) which I knew it wouldn't replace since 14 days hasn't expired. I tried this a few times before and I kept getting the bad ones.

Now all are good and playable.
Oh,

You used http://www.apple.com ... doesn't the app use movies.apple.com?? That's what the logs showed when I copied and pasted to post it, I am sure it was. Or is this what you are talking about in your code to get around it? Now looking at my logs, it uses http://www.apple.com... I think I am going crazy. Please say I am not.

This gives the same results http://movies.apple.com/movies/universal..._h.640.mov doesnt it?

News
29th Oct: Apple have done it again. You'll need to use the methods described on this page to download any trailers from them. These trailers will redirect you to the apple trailers homepage or download as an index.html file through regular methods.
