Hi I'm looking to set up a DVR using a PC and GB-PVR software and need advice on what card to buy. I have Dish satellite with the 322 receiver and 2 regular 32" tvs. My problem is that I am not sure if I would use the same type card that a cable tv system uses. I see some cards say they are not for digital satellite. Does that mean Dish and Direct TV or are they referring to the C and K band types? I'm not really clear on all the different formats the cards say they can be used for or what format Dish and Direct TV use. Thanks.

I also have the Dish 322. I am currently using a Hauppauge PVR-150 single tuner card. Recording from a 322 requires using the Svideo interface so the onboard tuners on the tv card are unused, you will only use the svideo inputs. That being said, you will only be able to use the first tuner on the 322 because the second tuner uses a UHF remote control and cannot be controlled by an IR blaster.

A good card for all of this is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6815116036

You would use an svideo connection for the 1st tuner and coax for the 2nd tuner. See below for controlling 2nd tuner.

You could add another one for local OTA (over-the-air) ATSC shows in HD. Even if you have CRT tv's HD as a source makes for a better picture.

To watch GBPVR on the 2nd tv use an MVP or NMT Popcorn Hour (PCH).
For playback of filetypes besides mpeg2 I recommend the PCH. You can find some A-100 or A-110's on ebay or refurbished at times at http://www.popcornhour.com/onlinestore/i...efurbished

I tried that little dish gizmo that converts the UHF output to IR. I had no luck with it and Dish Tech Support was clueless so I sent it back. Maybe I just got a dud, I am just going to get two single tuners, the price is about the same
Thanks for the reply guys. I probably should have mentioned that I need a card to fit a PCI slot as I'm using a slightly older computer for this.
The Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 are PCI. Only one port can be used for DISH, the other for OTA ATSC. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6815116033
I too would like some help as a newbe. My card is a TV Excel, which is the same as a Pixel View but the software doesn't list either of these so cannot continue with a trial.
Non of the listed ones allow you to continue with the setup. Any help please? Are these cards not suitable?
Your card probably does not have a hardware mpeg2 encoder. Therefore you would need to buy a Hauppauge or similar card. I am not familiar with services offered in NZ, hopefully someone else can chime in on specifics for your area.
