I have seen this a couple of times. I checked an in process recording (about 20 minutes into an hour recording) and it was listed as failed. I then checked the recording directory and it was actually recording. Then today I checked it and it only recorded about 20 minutes. That means it died sometime around when I checked on it. The logs say it never started. The show was the Amazing race on 3/20. The logs also shows that the next show failed, but it actually recorded fine.

You dont happen to have the npvr.log from the same time do you?

The recording server definitely failed to start the recording, but I suspect for some reason the client has thought the recording service wasnt running, and ran up a local copy of the recording server.

Here is the log. I see all of the client stuff but I don't understand. I have a couple of PCs set up as clients, but was not using any of them at the time the recording started. I do have a PCH connected. It should have been in stand by though. Maybe it was on but I doubt it was on anything but a menu.

Yeah, it does look like what I suggested above. I'm not sure why this happened though.

I suspect if you set <AllowInProcessRecording>false</AllowInProcessRecording> in config.xml, then this wont happen again.
Then will I just get a failed recording or should it record correctly? I guess I just want to keep it from failing. (Duh...)
Thanks for the help. I will try the setting.
The only reason it failed in the Recoridng Service was because the device was in-use by another process (the other local copy of the recording service running inside nextpvr.exe), so it would have worked fine.
Not to hijack this thread, but I may have encountered a similar situation. I recorded three programs in a row on 3/21 starting at 19:00, all on the same channel. The first and last recorded OK, but the middle recording (The Event) is truncated. It looks like it recorded the first 20 minutes, then stopped writing to disk. I don't see anything in the server nrecord.log. I have a client set up, but there are no entries in the client npvr.log during these recording intervals. Likewise, nothing in the local npvr.log. It's almost like it didn't flush a write buffer or something. Any chance the config.xml setting above would come into play? Should I set it to false? I'm running on Windows 20008R2 with a Dvico USB tuner. Thanks in advance.
@gabest can you upload the Timing.Info file for "The Event" it is stored as metadata in the .ts file if you have haven't deleted it already.

Martin
I have the .ts file. I'll need someone to explain how to extract timing.info
Here's the timing.info file.
