Last night I got a 0kB recording [The Rob Brydon Show BBC2 UK].
I note from the NRecord.log [attached]

I don't know why the tuner didn't lock [may be my custom tuning freqs] but I am surprised that NPVR tried to record unlocked.

I have seen this sometimes when my tuner (or it's driver) gets confused or upset when it comes out of standby. I suspect npvr still tries to record as ISTR some cards/drivers do not report lock/strength/quality properly.
