Hi everyone, after a 2 year Hiatus, I'm giving NPVR another go. Setup details:

WinXP HTPC
No Firewalls
Silicondust HD Homerun dual tuner (no cablecard)
Over-The-Air Antenna

I've updated the silicondust drivers to the latest, and it performed a channel scan and displays TV perfectly.

NPVR now lists extra tuners in the device list. It contains the usual 4 'devices' : 2 ATSC and 2 QAM type.. Now there are two more, with a type of HDHR, which is strange because all of them are HDHR brand.

Anyways, I tried performing a channel scan on both the ATSC type and the HDHR type. The ATSC type channel scan flies through channels once it gets started, as if it's not even looking. the HDHR type is clearly finding channels because the tuning metrics are indicating found channels and type 8vsb, etc, but here again none end up in the list. I've attached the log.

Both "Other ATSC/QAM" and "NPextVR" were tried from the HDHomerun Setup under 'Application" with the same result..

On a side note, GBPVR still scans and finds channels and subchannels fine.
allow nextpvr.exe, ndigitalhost.exe and NRecord.exe through your firewall, or disable it. use the "ATSC" type; the "HDHR" type is for the HDHomerun Prime with a CableCard.
Hi, thank you for taking the time to respond. I am not running firewalls, and I did try the ATSC type for scanning, as stated in the original post.

Any other ideas? The previous NextPVR version that I used from 2011 was able to scan.
yes, I was just clarifying that the "ATSC" type is the one you want.

my original reply was from a tablet so I hadn't looked at your log yet. now having looked, something bigger is going on; as you observed, the scan is blasting right through without actually doing anything, and it also crashes when it finishes. Reboot everything, re-install the latest silicon dust driver, make sure you can view channels in the silicon dust setup, then try scanning again in npvr using the ATSC device. Post the log if it doesn't work.

I'm puzzled because there don't appear to be any driver downloads at the Silicondust website: http://www.silicondust.com/support/hdhomerun/downloads/

Did you run this utility? http://www.drivermanager.com/en/drivers....ilicondust

Code:
2013-04-28 21:33:25.343    [DEBUG][1]    About to auto detect capture filter...
2013-04-28 21:33:25.343    [DEBUG][1]    Skipping capture filter detection
2013-04-28 21:33:25.343    [DEBUG][1]    No BDA capture filter for this device

doesn't the "Windows Download" in green letters seem like a driver download to you? it does to me.
I thought that was their proprietary software that "displays TV perfectly" and presumably includes drivers. I wouldn't trust that Driver Manager utility myself, but it does turn up when you search for HDHomerun drivers. The code I posted appears to be normal, having reviewed NPVR logs posted by other HDHomerun users in other threads. Any chance the tuners were in use by another application?
yes, Johnson had it right. The hdhomerun driver download is here:
http://www.silicondust.com/support/hdhomerun/downloads/
It includes the latest configuration utility, device firmware, and also a test app called 'quick TV'

No, I didn't run any 'drivermanager' app, I don't trust any website that isn't official that promises drivers but delivers an .exe file. Typically it is crapware. The silicondust download, however, is official. The tuners weren't in use by another application.. and they are available from the quicktv test app. I'll reboot again and test again, but expect the same result. Thanks so far!
Ok, just in case, I've completely uninstalled NextPVR, deleted its folder in Program Files and C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NPVR\Logs
and re-installed fresh.

Attached is the log for the channel scan. There appear to be a lot of .net related errors.?

The last thing it tried before all the .net errors is "Removing filter Network Provider" I don't know what this is or what it does, so I ran FilterCheck and then RegisterFileters.bat, and then FilterCheck again. The results are attached. It didn't fix the problem.

I've also attached the GBPVR Config.exe channel scan which was successful with the same HDHR 'drivers'
My apologies drlava, I see you're an old hand at installing/uninstalling drivers for your HDHomerun: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ner-config

You might want to try the same thing that worked 2 years ago:

Quote:I uninstalled the latest HD Homerun drivers/soft (2011.03.23) even though it worked with the old GBPVR and installed the older drivers/soft (2010.02.13) and set the app setup to Other:ATSC/QAM. NPVR is no longer crashing and is detecting channels OK.

Many NPVR users are having success with the HDHomerun, but not that many are running XP and fewer still have GBPVR installed on the same system. I don't blame you for hanging on to an application that has served you well for years. But while experimenting with NPVR, it might be a good idea to disable one ATSC tuner in GBPVR and enable only that tuner in NPVR as mentioned in this thread: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...R-and-NPVR

Wish I could be of more help.
