I seem to remember something in the distant past that one of the basic versions of XP does not support BDA drivers but I may be wrong!!

AFAIK in North America there is very limited FTA that might be available via DVB-S so I assume you are capturing via the analog ports. Check the wiki for the SoftPVR info.
