New install. Windows 7 64-bit.

Using the "Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder" for H.264, video results in pixelated mess. I downloaded and installed ffdshow(32-bit) and selected it in the NPVR settings for H.264 but according to the logs, NPVR is still using the "Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder" instead of ffdshow.

2015-07-20 16:03:08.295 [DEBUG][1] Graph filter list:
2015-07-20 16:03:08.295 [DEBUG][1] - Default DirectSound Device
2015-07-20 16:03:08.295 [DEBUG][1] - EVR Renderer
2015-07-20 16:03:08.295 [DEBUG][1] - Microsoft DTV-DVD Audio Decoder
2015-07-20 16:03:08.295 [DEBUG][1] - Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder
2015-07-20 16:03:08.295 [DEBUG][1] - Y:\test.mkv

The thing is, I can take Graphedit and manually create the graph with ffdshow and it works perfectly.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Earlier in time, you had to add NPVR to the applications whitelist in FFDshow. Don't know if that still exists, but worth a look. Also, the MS audio decoder does not work with 3rd party apps like NPVR. You can try AC3Filter which works great for US broadcast TV. With h264 and mkv it looks like you aren't working with broadcast TV, so YMMV. You might also look at the SAF decoder pack that is tailored for NPVR. It's on the forum here.

NextPVR settings don't work with mkv files they use whatever your Windows merit settings for the graph are and I guess that isn't ffdshow.

Good point, Martin. I missed that. NPVR only plays .ts files itself, all others are passed to Windows to play how Windows sees fit. That said, is the app list in ffdshow applicable for this case? In the old days, I think DirectShow Filter Manager could set merit. There should be an equivalent modern too.
Many people get on very well with the SAF codec pack that is NextPVR aware and configures the decoders accordingly (using LVA audio and video decoders). Send Hoberg a PMR to request the unlocked version to gain access to the cyberlink decoder which works extremely well for H264 content.
Hi All,

Thanks for all the quick replies.

I did some research and found a tool called Win7DSFilterTweaker 5.9. There, I was able to set the preferred decoder to ffdshow. The playback is clean now.

Thanks all.
