Full Version: 2nd TV card... PVR-250 or PVR-500?

I have a setup now with one Hauppauge PVR-250 card. I'm thinking about getting a 2nd TV tuner card. I could get another PVR-250, or for about the same price, I could get a PVR-500.

Apparently the PVR-500 is just like two PVR-150's. So, what is the difference between the PVR-150 and PVR-250? Some people have told me that the PVR-150 doesn't support MPEG2 hardware compression, but from what I've read, it does. So what's really the difference?

3 tuners would be nifty, although 2 will do if the PVR-500 is just going to be a headache in the long run.

System is an Athlon 64 3200+. 1GB of RAM. I might decide to transplant the PVR into my Pentium4 3.4 Ghz (overlocked to 3.8 Ghz), 1GB of DDR2 533 RAM, fast hard drive.

On Hauppauge's site I really can't tell the difference between the PVR-150 (and hence, PVR-500) and PVR-250.

I bought the PVR-250 initially over the PVR-500 because the 250 had a remote control and the 500 didn't. Now that I've got the remote through the 250, I don't have a problem getting a "remoteless" card for my 2nd card.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
