I purchased a Hauppauge 500 MCE Tuner about a week ago and have been toying with it ever since. I am having issues in two areas and hoping someone out there is able to help me out! I would GREATLY appreciate it because I really starting to give up.
1. Zap2it: I am using Zap2it to download the tv guide. I like the setup and it is super easy to use (would not be against changing if there is no way around my problem, would just need a suggestion for a solution). However, I have 60 channels configured to download (my tuner states that it can handle 120 channels) and yet when I view live tv or recordings some channels (109 - National Geographic and several others mostly in the higher number range) show up as static but I can view them fine on my cable box. And there are about five channels that all show up as the same channel. For example I switch to MTV and it is a bycycle race!? Super frustrating. I have tried reinstalling GBPVR and deleting the directory. I have tried manually entering 109 and it didn't change the situation. ARGH!
2. Quality: I am using a CyberLink video decoder and playing video back in an Intervideo player and my quality even when set to High recording quality is not as good as I would like it. When I view others videos that they have recorded their quality seems to be MUCH crisper and clearer than mine. I have a very soft fuzzy look to my recordings. Is there a better decoder to use? Should I be doing something different? When I view live tv the quality is better than the recordings, but not much it is still not very clear.
I am using GB-PVR with a Hauppauge Nova-S DVB card (BDA-drivers). Scanning TV channels in general works fine (Astra Astra 1B, 1C, 1E, 1F, 1G, 1H, 2C), however GB-PVR doesn't find all of my German TV channels (e.g. ZDF, SAT.1 und RTL are missing).
The TechnoTrend BDA Media Center Application has no problems finding the channels.
Now I've set up the second card to MCE 500 with FM radio and the first to MCE 500.
I'm using radio-channels from the german cable-net.
With the old PVR 250 all channels are working great, but the scan doesn't find any channel.
So I've manualy set up each channel with the listing of my cable-provider (germany). (URL to the list: http://www.kmg-hannover.de/service/frequenzsuche.php)
With the new PVR500, the channels are not correct:
- Some channels are mute
- I can hear two channels with a bad quality at the same time.
It seems, gbpvr can not tune exactly to the right frequency. To test this, I've added my PVR 250 card as third tuner. When this is the only fm-tuner-device, all channels works correct. But I've sold this old card to ebay and must remove it tomorrow.
What can I do to test the fm-radion ?
Is there another application that can use hauppauges tuner or can I reconfigurate something in gbpvr ?
So I have comskip v.64, old school, and it was working just fine up until about a week ago. I have my bat file set up right and it was doing its job, just right. But now, none of my recorded shows have com-skipping points (green sections). So I looked at my log and txt files and found something interesting. The log files include the chapter points at the end of them, but in the recent episodes, comskip outputs commercials that are 30-70% of the shows length  Also, the .txt files are empty (have no numbers below the header)....
I originally had .73 installed but it would crash after each show (Comskip.exe has generated an error-crash. Would you like to submit it to Microsoft?). So I downgraded back to .64 (what I was using before). What follows is the text of my ini file, but I am pretty sure it is/was the default.....
Any ideas?

I've been noticing that the upper end of the audio is getting crackly and distorted. I updated (to rev 0.93.10) when I found out that this rev was supposed to fix a bad bitrate for Hauppauge cards. I installed it thinking that was the end of it. However, I just reviewed a program that it pulled down and the audio distortion is still there. Until the last 2 revs, the audio has been crystal clear.
I'm running on a P4, 3.2gHz HT, 512 mB RAM Dell PC with a PVR-150 (Hauppauge). Any thoughts?
If I am recording a show and I cancel it, the Tray still shows green. I have to manually click restart recording service to make it go red, and it stays that way.
I have a Pinnacle PCTV Stereo tuner card, which uses software encoding. This makes Windows XP MCE unusable for me, but I am looking for an alternative. What I want to do is just be able to use an EPG and be able to leave my pc to record shows when Iâm not home. So just EPG & scheduled recording are what I need, although things like pausing live tv would be nice.
Can I use GBPVR for this purpose? If not, which programs can I use to do this? Does anyone else use a software encoder / PCTV Stereo to record TV?
Was just about to order an MVP when I read, in the pdf specification, that you have to turn off the standard XP firewall for it to work.
My HTPC is currently my router and I do not want to install a software based firewall as all the ones I've tried have some problem or another and really slow the PC down. I don't really want to buy a standalone router either as the last one I had kept locking up.
Can someone who has an MVP please confirm whether it can work with the XP firewall enabled?
