Next week I am getting a new PC to replace my existing HTPC. My existing HTPC is a Brix with an i3 processor, 8Meg of memory, with internal SSD running Windows 10. All the media files and my recording location is a 3TB USB 3.0 drive (WD Red). I'm running the current release of NextPVR and Kodi Gotham (long story there). I have had this configuration (less the upgrade to Windows 10) for just over 2 years and it has been working great.
But... I did the stupid thing when I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1. I actually liked 8.1 and had no big complaint about it. It ran pretty well. I waited a long time after 10 was available thinking it would be stable when I finally upgraded. Well, it isn't like it crashes everyday, but is nowhere near as stable as it was under Win 8.1. Ever since I went to Windows 10, I have seen a lot of glitches and have really been pretty disgusted with it. To the extent I am now getting a new HTPC and getting rid of Windows 10. Sure, I could back off Windows 10. That in itself would be a big job and of course while doing that my HTPC would not be available. And if it went badly, it may not be available for some time. I'd rather not face that. My wife is only recently finally started to regularly use my HTPC rather then the old ReplayTVs, and I want to insure our HTPC experience is un-interrupted. So I have already made the decision, just waiting for all my parts to arrive, which should be Tuesday.
The question:
So once I get the system setup and all working as a PC like it should, I will do a fresh install of NextPVR. The question I am looking to get answered by the much more experienced people on this forum is, "what NextPVR files and/or directories do I need to copy to the new HTPC", and is there anything else I need to worry about? My goal is to copy all those files/directories over, reboot and basically have my old configuration but on a new PC. I realize I have to stop all the NextPVR services before I copy things over. My concern is that I copy the right stuff. I'd rather not reconfigure everything from scratch if I don't have to. The new system will be Windows 7. Why, because it comes with it and I expect it to be much better then Windows 10. I don't rule out someday upgrading to Windows 8.1, but not now. My new drive for all my media files (and recording location) will remain drive "D", but be an internal 4TB WD Red. My 3TB WD red on the old system gave me zero problems, so I am sticking with them. So it will have all the old systems drive structure. I know there will be no issue coping those files. It is the system files used by NextPVR that I am concerned with. With NextPVR all setup and working well, I will just install Kodi Gotham on the new system and run restore (from XBMC Backup) to get it's settings back. I don't see a problem there.
When done, I will retain the old Brix HTPC for a "backup".
I'm a new user just installed to replace WMC on my win 10 machine. I followed the wiki and everything went fine. I did need to download the decoder which installed without an issue. I can record, play back with no issues. In WMC I could FF out the commercials. The FF function worked very smoothly with increasing the speed of the FF with another tap of the FF button. I have changed the FF function to faster playback on the program but I does not work that great and the video hangs. I get audio but the video does not play. I have to close out and reopen.
Is there a setting I need to change for smoother FF though the commercials or is this a limitation of the program?
Thanks very much great interface, clear picture better than WMC I'm liking it except for this issue.
I have been getting recording failures regularly for about the last month. They always say "No errors, but no data delivered. This is usually because the device failed to lock a signal." I have a SiliconDust HDHomerun dual network tuner and a Hauppage single tuner card in the pc. The pc has a wired ethernet connection. I am a little suspicious of the HDHomerun but everything looks OK in settings. logs attached.
I am testing NextPVR as a replacement for Media Center in Windows 10. The tuner installed is the Hauppauge HVR-1600 with WinTV v8 installed. When I run NextPVR and click Live TV I get a message that no channels have been setup and to use Settings - Devices, however there is no Settings in the main menu. The tuner works okay with WinTV and Media Center (in Windows 7) so I know it is okay. Can you help?
Thanks
I want to modify the number of recordings for the "keep"-functionality in Recurring Recordings, but I can't find it in the database. Can someone tell me what table and field it's in? I have some recurring recordings where "keep" was not set, and when I set it now, it starts counting with new recordings, not taking the current set of recordings in account.
I am setting up a new HDHomeRun Connect to use with NextPVR on my Server (Windows Server 2012 R2) and am having an issue finding the "Location Tab" within the program. I did review this topic but was unable to get the component registered (checked the directory and it was not there. I assume this was supposed to be installed with the HDHR Setup installation. I am able to use HDHR Viewer on various devices around the house but can't go through the proper setup documented here to configure NextPVR
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Looking forward to using my HDHomeRun!
Have been trying to find how to get a UUID - the legit way - but I can't find anything anywhere, except TitanTV's "Get" page, to sign up and get a UUID.
Seems to require a "partner ID", and I'm assuming that NextPVR isn't a "partner"? So is there anyway to get a UUID for TitanTV to use it's service?
I changed my setup last weekend, deactivating two of my four HDHomerun tuners. After this the EPG wasn't updated at night. It looks like npvr is still trying to use the deactived tuner, giving the following error:

I've solved it with a fresh install, but maybe it can be solved in a new release to prevent it from happening with other users. I couldn't find how npvr selects the tuner to use for the epg update.
One question though: my provider broadcasts all epg data for all channels on one channel. Is there way to only select this channel for the epg update? Because that would make it really quick.
Has anyone researched how best to keep the time-of-day clock used by a cable TV settop box in sync with a PC's time-of-day clock? Is there a common "timebase trigger" that can be used to keep them together?
As of now, I check each week and after a reboot to make sure the two clocks show the same time-of-day, to the second. If left unattended, the clocks will drift apart to the point of missing showtime.
