During my experiments with the tray icon project, I noticed a couple of things about the auto-start versions of GB-PVR that I wanted to pass along.

First, the GB-PVR sessions that are auto-started don't show up in the task bar (which is great), but I'm still seeing a window in the ALT-TAB program list. I think you can get the window off that list by setting it's "FormBorderStyle" to "FixedToolWindow" which would be nice if you have some time.

Second, when the Config tool restarts an auto-started version of GB-PVR, the tray icon from the previous instance is still visible in the tray until you mouse over it. I was hoping to find some way to tie into the shutdown process so I could manually remove the icon, but haven't figured out how yet. It doesn't look like the destructor for my plugin gets called during this particular type of shutdown, or am I missing something?

This is usually a sympton of the recording service having the "allow service to interact with the desktop" property set. It might be worth checking on your setup.

I think this is more likely an issue with how the GB-PVR application starts up when it's running in "MVP" mode and auto-started by the Config application, since the window(s) I'm seeing in the ALT-Tab list are for the "GB-PVR MediaMVP Server" app and not the recording service.

Funny you should mention this. In the next release it does something like this when run from the service. When run from the MVP Server icon, it behaves the same as it currently does, which is useful for my testing.

Maybe so, but have you tried what I suggested? With that setting not-checked I do not see the window in the alt-tab list, with it on, I do.

You are correct that turning off that setting prevents the hidden window from appearing in the Alt-Tab list, but it also blocks the display of the Tray Icon I've been working on so I guess I'll have to stick with the Alt-Tab issue for the moment.

It looks to me like the MVP server app is being restarted a short time after an MVP is powered off since the MVP tray icon disappears and then reappears in the default "not connected" state.

Is this what is happening, and if so, how does this restart differ from what happens when you choose "Restart Recording Service" from the GB tray icon, since that type of restart fails to remove the MVP tray icon?

Yes, it does restart them soon after the MVP disconnects.

The main difference is when the MVP disconnects, the GB-PVR MVP instance shuts down and restarts itself, in contrast to when the recording service is restarted and the recording service kills the processes.

That's kind of what I suspected. I guess I'll just have to be happy with the lingering icons ...
