Hi,

I just installed a Hauppauge Win-TV-PVR 350 card, and installed the most recent version of GB-PVR. I have Comcast cable connected to the card.

I don't know where or how to get a RPG Source, so that I can use the software.

I'm not sure of what the advantages are of using GB-PVR, as I am just learning. I heard that it was the only free software that I could use that will record TV without commercials. Is that true?

Please help me setup this software...thanks!

Hugs,

I know of at least one more free software, and that is mythtv. I'm sure there are others, especially in a linux environment. GBPVR does *not* record tv without commercials (unless it's from a tv station that does not send commercials ;-)) but there are plugins that give you the possibility to analyze the mpeg and mark where it thinks there are commercials. GBPVR can then skip these parts of the mpegs during playback. You can optionally with other plugins cut out the pieces that are marked as being commercials.

Now, regarding as how to set this up, have you looked at the wiki?

Start there and post more specific questions as they arise =)
And welcome =)

Ok, I got the EPG configured, and it downloads the channel lineup...

However, when I run GB-PVR and click on "Live TV," a message appears on the screen that reads:

"Video is playing back using TV out Press 'Home' to return to the menu"

I don't have any video running and there is nothing connected to "TV out."

Any ideas?

The video that is referred to is your live tv. It is playing on the tv-out on the pvr-350. If you don't have a tv connected to your pvr-350's tv-out you need to select "hardware decoder - none" in the config app, and choose a software decoder instead. That way your ordinary graphics card will be used for playing the video.

When I do that, I get the following error:

"Unable to load DLL (hcwIRblast.dll)"

Now, it sounds like you have defined your capture source as being the pvr-150, because it's the only one that has a blaster configured... or wait... maybe you have selected "channel changer: pvr-150"? If you don't have an ir blaster (which I assume you don't) you should set this to "none".
