I have made some substantial changes to the heuristics of Comskip.
This can lead to terrible results.

If you would like to try and feedback the results you can download from
http://mk.kaashoek.com/gbpvr/comskip78beta.zip

As a bonus this version will, after editing of the cutpoints, not only write the new txt file but all available and selected output formats (and yes, there may be errors in this new code but otherwise it would not be a beta, yes?)

The most important tunable parameter is
min_show_segment_length=60
This is a conservatie setting and may lead to long commercials being regarded as show.
A more agressive setting is
min_show_segment_length=120
or any value in between.

Give it a try and feedback what you prefer.
My test files seem to disagree on the best value.

Erik,

Any thought in extending this to work with AVI containers instead of just mpeg? I'm particularly interested in XVid/Divx, as I record all my programs with a hardware based Divx device.

If someone can tell me how to use the libavcodec.dll library I will but untill now I have not been able to use it, lack of time, lack of knowledge on using windows dll's, maybe I should send my wife on a 2 month holliday, at least it helped jere Big Grin

My problem is that libavcodec can not be compiled under VC++ so I need to use CGI-WIN to generate a dll and the VC++ to use the DLL from comskip.
And I don't know how to convert the avcodec.h into being a interface to a dll (except adding a C keyword, but if that is sufficient I am happy)
So I prefer having access to someone who has been using libavcodec in a VC++ project through the dll.
Because my family will not benefit it has lower priority so it should not take too much of my time.

No problem on the time frame, I completely understand. From what I have found it looks like you just tell it to use the extern "C" directive and let it know which library to use.

But from there, there are a couple of more steps. If the libavcodec is a mingw32 DLL then this should help.

http://www.mingw.org/mingwfaq.shtml#faq-msvcdll

I have no problem waiting on this. I'd just like to see one program that can do this regardless of what codec was used to create the file. Just my two cents, I understand time constraints and priorities.

You could use a definition file....

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/defaul..._files.asp

I've had to use these in the past when the keywords don't work (like when linking in static libraries)
