Hi,
Now that GBPVR can use the Media Player visualisations I thought about having a(nother) go at writing my own. Some while back I wrote a couple of visualisations, my favourite being the one which bounced the head of our hated CEO to the beat of the music.

What I wanted to ask was if anyone has any experience of writing them as I've just used basic windows GDI calls to create animations and it really isn't up to job of what some of the more funky ones do. Do they use OpenGL for instance?

Any ideas and thoughts gratefully received. . . .
Cheers

I've never created one, so dont know very much about them, but I did come across a few of samples with source when googling on WMP visualization stuff. It might worth downloading a couple and taking a look to get ideas on what can be done.

You might want to start here...

Don't ask me for any advice though. Artistically? I can play a mean guitar, but when it comes to anything graphical the best I can do is a 'stick man'. Big Grin

Thanks for the link.

As there were no obvious signs of management presence at the office today, I managed to get some code written.

My first just shows the title of the current track in the vis window with a line that bounces according to the volume.

I then got my head stuck in loads of OpenGL samples and can now bounce a bit of 3D text about. I'm looking at how do make it shiney and have have point light sources working and then use the GBPVR logo and extrude to to 3D and then somehow pulse this to the music.

I'm also artistically inept and rely on poorly remembered geometry to make 'effects'.

BTW
has anyone seen the light-synthesier that Jeff Minter has written for the new XBOX 360 - getting that plugged into GBPVR would be splendid

Some llamasoft screenshots

Cheers
Chris
