I thought this link was interesting.

http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/index.php?p=1

This guy has developed a "LiveCD" for XP. He supports a "Plugin" architecture so there might be a way to have a gbpvr "plugin" that would allow a gbpvr client to run from a bootable CD.

Might be an interesting way to turn a laptop into a TV.

I probably won't have time to look at it until after the Holiday, but I thought I would post it in case someone is interested.

Yes, I'd seen an article covering BartPE on http://www.tomshardware.com a while back and have been meaning to look into it when I have some free time. However, it sitting way down on the do list at the minute so I'd be interested if anyone gives it a go.

I've used it a couple of times in the last year. It's great for cleaning up memory-resident viruses and adware. The plugin documentation can be a bit hit-or-miss, but it's a really great tool.

Im looking for the ability to build a 'rescue disc' for my uncle, the idea being if he breaks the PVR, bang the bootable cd in and boot from that, which will then automatically restore a 'clean' image and get him working again...had a quick look at this guys site and it looked like it might be achievable with his software, has anyone thoughts on this? is this the sort of thing its designed for?

I use it more as a diagnostic tool. When I used to build recovery disks like that, I'd use something like Ghost. But Ghost no longer supplies a DOS-only executable the way it used to (and it isn't free), and the Windows OS has gotten much more complicated - I don't think you could just zip the boot drive or partition and unzip to restore. There are utilities available that will image a drive or partition and allow you to restore that image, but I can't name one that's free and good.

BartPE does supply a lot of plugins, though, and you could run a batch file in the Startup group that would call a restore routine if the image file is small enough to fit on the CD with BartPE. I think you'd just have to do some research to find an inexpensive solution.

Its a lot easier to create a ghost boot cd/dvd - you can practically make it foolproof Smile.

Bartpe is ok but it takes a lot of experimentation to get it right, IMHO

I use Ghost too.

But if you want to take some time to build a recovery disk with Bart PE, start here.
