Guys,

I'm in desperate need of assistance, I built a new computer - replace my old ATI All-in-Wonder Capture card for a new WinTV PVR-500MCE. I was so excited of the IDEA of having a two tuners. Well I'm at crisis melt down - I have two days to get three videos copied to DVD for a conference and I can't figure out how to setup this darn thing.

Can some one give me some idiot proof instructions. The tunner has FM, Coaxial, S-Video, and the RCA Jacks Yellow, White, and Red.

HOW do i get the VCR to the LiveTV??????

For a quick how-to, the wiki should get you going. it starts here

More specifically, this link describes how to setup the tuners within GBPVR. some of the screenshots are a bit out of date but the theory hasnt changed.

To copy the recordings to DVD, you can use revens excellent plugin called My Videos (found on the wiki under the plugins section) to select recordings and burn to DVD from within the GBPVR interface. There are also standalone free programs which various folk use. I think VideoReDo might be one of them and ive a vague memory of a thread a few days ago discussing the various options you have for free standalone programs, but as i dont use them i didnt really take in what was being said. As you say times at a premium you may wanna hunt the thread down and see if there are any on there recommended for ease of use.

hope that gives you a few pointers anyway

Rick

To be honest, for dubbing tapes, I'd just use the Hauppauge WinTV software. It'll be much easier for this type of task.

I have the WinTV PVR-500MCE - doesn't come with software (hence GB-PVR), nor does it come with Remote.

I'm fairly you can download for free and use the WinTV software with that card. It'll only use the first tuner, but should work fine.

Thanks for the help. I have this configure as such:

Capture Tuner #1 - PVR-500 w/ FM - internal tuner - Zapit2
Capture Tuner #2 - PVR-500 - Compsite Source - Channel 0

I get a source via the coxail cable but I don't get anything from the VCR source.

That's my problem.

Well if I can, I was not able to find it anywhere on the Hauppauge site. Do you have a link/url to the software?

If the 500s the same as the 350, theres multiple composite inputs available via the white brach-outs on the PCI card. these are reflected (i assume) in GBPVR in the multiple svideo/composite sources you can select in the config app. If the 'composite source' youve chosen is the first one, try the others. I found the 350s svideo source in my setup was 'composite 3' but i couldnt get more that b/w picture from it.

Eventually I just sent the output from the STB via a arial lead into the 350s internal tuner and set the source to 'fixed channel, external tuner' effectivly the same as you would for viewing a VCR through a standard tv. As you have a internal tuner spare you could do it that way to get it working quickly.

Go to shspvr.com to get the software under downloads. I think this is the one you need. http://www.shspvr.com/pvr2_drv-apps.html The 500mce is listed for WinTV 32/2000 but it says it is not fully supported. There is also good info on the bottom of the page to tell you how to install it. Good luck.
