PS: when you say all the clients/mvps/etc are running off the same frontend, does this mean that a plugin wouldnt be able to control them separately? or would a plugin be able to send a particular command to a particular client instance (be it the main server output, or a mvp? thus allowing you to remotely control different zones individually)

They all run the same .exe, but each exists as a separate instance (ie a separate running process). You'd need to keep this in mind when designing a socket or other interface that listens for requests. If you wanted to control the PC instance of GBPVR.exe, you'd need to send requests to that specific socket, or something like that.

A plugin can tell if they're the PC instance or an MVP instance, since I'm guessing you'd only really be interested in controlling the PC instance.

Actually it could be nice to have control over an MVP instance too... Mostly for having a nice touchscreen remote, but also as a way of extending audio into another room with minimal cost (just an MVP, hook it up to a stereo amp, and thats it)...

I'll try and look into this when I have more time... if anyone wants to help please let me know...

I know it's been a while, but I haven't forgotten about this project. The problem with the server plugin has been fixed and it's now working fairly well. Attached is the server plugin and the PC remote client. (A PPC version is in the works.)

Both the server and the client are based on madcat's initial plugin and the source code is available upon request.

Sorry if I missed it, but how does one tell what instance a plugin is running in?

You can look at the string returned by IPluginHelper.GetClientIdentifier(). If it starts with 'MVP' then its an MVP instance.

Hi,

I'm a .net programmer and wouldn't mind helping out where I can.

Is this project still alive ?

No, not anymore. I got distracted and forgot about it. I could send you the source code if you'd like.

I think some people are using the native web interface EWA from iPhones, iTouch's and Pocket PC's. It has a minimized interface available for these smaller formats and EWA will provide (via the web app) most of the functionality that people are looking for (live tv, video/audio library, play recordings, etc.).
