Homeplug Turbo speed tests

Tom's Networking ran some speed tests on the new HomePlug Turbo (85Mbps) devices, and found some pretty disapointing results:

So unless you really need 10 Mbps vs. the 3-5Mbps you'll get from non-Turbo HomePlug, and are ok with paying twice as much for the privilege, I suggest leaving HomePlug Turbo products on the shelf. You'll not only save yourself money and disappointment, but maybe also send a message to manufacturers that you've had enough of their performance claim games and are not gonna take it any more!

Anyone have a different experience?

I would disagree with this opinion. I specifically bought the turbo version for use with my MVP about 3 months ago and i've tested them all over the house and been very impressed. The upper limits that manufacturers give on networking products are all calculated as maximum possible speeds under lab conditions. In a real world environment you'll never get close to this.

I admit that I live in a fairly small house but it's about 150yrs old and the wiring is very poor. Despite this, and extension sockets hanging out of every orifice I can easily achieve between 40 and 70Mbps depending on where I have it connected. This is far faster than my 802.11g and the MVP is smooth as silk. I would highly reccomend them and I know other users who feel the same.

Always interesting to hear other opinions though.
