Remote IR Reciever Placement

What seems to work the best.. I have mine sitting horizontally near the base of my tv sitting on a shelf.. It works okay... But I cant figure out how to get it to work good! Its really picky about where it wants to work.. You have to be pointing up if your below it..and You have to be pointing out if you above it.. It doesnt even work if your level with it, or pointing down on it!!

Its a hauppauge one that came with teh 45 button remote

My MCE beanbag sits on top of the TV. doesnt seem to have a problem.

Are you using an LCD or plasma screen? Ive read that they can cause inteferance with IR receivers placed near them. Cant remember which type of screen or if its both types though.

Nope CRT style , 27inch JVC I'Art

the shelf its sitting on is around 3 ft tall

Is the mini jack firmly seated in the tuner card?

Do you have any bright lights (sunlight) or other types of lights near the receiver?

Nope... Nothing... ITs in my bedroom though... So that might be the problem... Its a small room
