1)Can I transfer my VHS tapes to my PC using GB-PVR?

If so which menu do I choose to accomplish this and what steps do I go through?

2)Do I need a internet connection to my pc while GB-PVR is running? I see myself either scheduling a channel/time to do the recording, do on the fly manual recording, or recording my VHS tapes to the pc.

Thanks [Image: cool.gif]

1) That wasn't really the intention of GB-PVR. You're probably better off using something like WinTV2000 for this sort of task.

2) No you dont need to be connected to the internet. You'd need to use XMLTV to get your TV listings, and somehow copy XMLTV files onto your GB-PVR computer periodically. Other EPG source such as zap2it expect a network connection, so wouldn't really work for your situation.

Okay I'm using zap2it since I'm in the USA and I read your quick guide and it said to choose that one.

Can I really choose XMLTV instead?

I'm curious why did you mentioned that USA/Canda people use zap2it instead?

I've read the software that came with my WinTV 250 card is really terrible and hence I didn't even bother installing them.

Can anyone give any recommendations on freeware software that will allow me to go from VHS tapes to my PC?

Thanks sub again for the super fast reply time [Image: biggrin.gif]

In the USA you can use either zap2it or XMLTV. zap2it is much easy to setup than XMLTV, but requires a network connection which rules it out for your need.

The original Hauppauge software is crap if you're looking for a PVR, but it'll do just fine if you just want record from VHS to MPEG2 file.

It's not that I don't have a internet connection for my computer so zap2it isn't necessary ruled out.

I was just wondering what were the requirements for internet connection.

Thanks for clearing that up sub

I've been converting my wife's collection of Dark Shadows tapes to DVD and I've had very good success with Sage TV's  Sage Recorder software.

It isn't freeware but at about $25 it was pretty reasonable.

It may be overkill for the task but when I was trying to use a Videoblaster as my digitizer, it was the only thing that came close to working
