I have tried and tried to make this PVR work with no success. It is time for me to drop the whole idea I think.

Everything seems to be set up properly only I still get no channels working. I will take a look at it again in the future but I need to let it go for now before I smash it into the ground.

Not to jump on the bandwagon, but....

I was a KnoppMyth (Knoppix Linux Distro of MythTV) for several years. This distro claimed to be the easiest way to set up MythTV. While this, in part, is true, the going was usually pretty rocky. The message boards there were full of people who were knowledgable, but were known to be arrogant. After 'upgrading' to the latest version and have everything break, I gave up on the fight of having to search for answers for getting supported hardware to work, recompiling the kernel, and practically begging people to help.

While driving to work it came to me: find a windows solution. Over the years I was away, the windows PVR scene had matured a lot. Gone were the days of Snapstream being the only viable candidate. I happened upon gbpvr and got my system up and running in short order.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that while making your own PVR is a novel idea it may not be without problem. I can tell you from my experience that gbpvr is a much easier road than that of any of the Linux based PVRs. I know it doesn't help your situation and I understand your frustration. Just know that the people here have been extremely helpful and quick to reply. This is an observation from my perspective albeit over only a short period of time.

Good luck.

I, too, went through a number of PVR solutions, as well as MythTV. GB-PVR is by far the best when it comes to installation+features+support. Sub's support is actually superior to many commercial vendors I deal with. This forum is much better than many other forums I deal with. I just pray that Sub does not lose interest in this, I hate going to back to recompiling kernels again!

Linux (unix) scares me, getting drivers and muxes/decoders to run in that environment wakes me up at night just thinking about it. Aside from the app that came with my Twihan DVB-T card, GBPVR has been the only major success.
I went through the early incarnations of BDA drivers, and lots of setup/config issues even getting this running nicely, but it did work and (to repeat previous) these support forums have been some of the most helpful I have ever worked with, such quick responses from everybody (including Sub) on all topics PVR (and often wide of the GB-PVR software).
However, no longer being a noobie, I think it might be good to re-cap on all of the associated progs/apps and other things that I seemed to need to get things going. Installing Intervideo/cyberlink app trials just to get muxers/codec installed is one of the myteries that took me a while to find out about and get my head around. You still cant just get a pc, install windows, your card (and remote) and GBPVR sit down and watch/record tv, it takes sooo much more to get all the bits needed and configed to run, so i think some A to Z steps on this would be nice.
Again, I think GBPVR is a great app (and I have compared it to others like MythTV) and even better is this support forum, always a timely response.

** THANKS ** Rex.

Don't give up!

I started out with MCE2K5 and after installing some new hardware (raid sata) I decided to reinstall --- MS decided that I was a pirate and I had to jump through hoops to complete the process. Screw that! Next I set up Myth on Ubuntu --- fairly painless, but the video plugin was crude and hard to navigate.

Finally, XP Pro and GB-PVR. An extremely easy setup and the WAF factor is +10. Video playback is flawless.

My system is fairly generic: 1.6Ghz Athlon, 512Mb RAM, 1TB local storage, PVR500MCE.

Windows offers the possibility to let someone help You remotely. Netmeeting also does. Perhaps You should invite someone to look over it...

If noone else wants to offer this help, I would. But I only have experience with PVR350

P.S: It may be a time problem, because I live some time zones away.
Hauppauge PVR 350 - Nova-T USB2 - Intel 2800MHz? - 512 MB RAM - Windows XP - No Mouse nor Keyboard.

I think there are number of people here who would love to help and enjoy the challenge. Can you list out your equipment, OS, cable, satellite, etc and I'm sure everyone will pitch in!

Like others have suggested people can try logging on remotely using UltraVNC or Windows Remote Desktop
AMD Athlon XP 2500+, Asus A7V8X-X, 1 gb Ram, 7600 GT, Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-250 & Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150, 1.5 Terabyte Seagate HD, XP Pro
