After a few days of frustration with Mediaportal I stumbled onto gbpvr, installed and was working in 20 mins, I was impressed !!
Using the PC as a scaler for a 42" plasma panel (not a tv so no internal scaler)
Using sky+ in the UK so don't need the pvr functions of media centres.
Initally tried MCE but it has a 3 second lag with pvr-150 tv card so no use for changing channels etc.
No lag in mediaportal but hard on system resources and couldn't get rid of black bars on sides of tv picture.
So after installing gb-pvr, started up live TV and have a nice picture, no lag for channel surfing.
I set gbpvr to start automatically at windows startup, this works fine but when I press "LiveTV" on the mce remote it also started up windows media centre LiveTV ans well as gbpvr livetv. Am I missing something obvious here, is there a way to prevent mce from starting when gbpvr is running. I noticed that if I started Mediaportal then mce would no longer start, so an inital work around is to start mediaportal in the background minimised to stop mce starting.
It was late and I'd been pulling my hair out for hours with mediaportal, maybe I missed something obvious in gbpvr. Obviously i could go back to win xp sp2 and that would cure the problem
