older versions of gb-pvr?

out of curiosity, are the older versions of gbpvr available anymore?? just incase someone wanted to get older versions to play with or if they need them?

No, old versions are not available. I dont mind if people offer you old version via PM, but I dont want any public download URLs etc posted, or external web pages providing them for download. As far as I'm concerned, the old versions are dead and buried.

I've archived older versions from about late 2004 on (I held on to previous versions during upgrades & never cleaned up ). PM me if you need an older version.

I am somehow disappointed, that so much people want to downgrade their GB-PVR to lower Versions.

People think about that: sub tries to implement new functions, new architecture and bugfixes. But he alone don't have 1000 different systems and need the help of us the discover potentially bugs of this software.

GB-PVR is under heavy developement, like the plugins for this wunderful Software.

It's a little bit "egoistic" that everyone want's to use "his perfect Version" and wait long enough, till new versions are nearly bugfree.

I think: sub offers it's software FULLY for free! And he gives a fantastic support! We all owe him something.

Everytime he brings out a new version, i'll follow and test. This way error's and bugs can be discovered much faster and sub can fix them.

My boyfriend's gotten so addicted to my PVR, I'm getting to the point where I need a test computer to upgrade and tweak so I don't miss any of his recordings.

I have to admit, tho, that I am slow to upgrade to the new version because I think it's time to upgrade to Windows XP & the SQL database. Maybe I need a setup like Tipstir :eek:

It's always scary knowing that you have to complete any changes you are making and have them tested prior to the next showing of spouse/so's favorite show.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying ShiningDragon, and as an active forum member I also test the latest release to give feedback.
But I also believe there are two major groups of PVR users, so I can’t agree with the highlighted line. Users like us probably like tinkering with the program more than we like watching TV. Some people come here for one reason only, they want a working stable PVR.
For those users, their first and only impression of GBPVR is when there’s a new release and it’s bumped to the top of the list at places like VideoHelp.com.
Until the latest patch was released (if they can find it in the forum), North-American users (Zap2It EPG) had a big problem. In a month or two the plugins may be updated, but as it is today if a new user installs most of them they are only installing errors.
I’d like to see GBPVR be a program that can be recommended to people any time, anywhere. For that to happen there needs to be a fully patched stable version available on the home page, and the beta’s we try should remain on the forum. This would also give developers one-release worth of time to update their plugins.

I agree (with Jim) that there should (ideally) be a rock solid release and a latest release available. However, the problem with this is that Sub has to support multiple versions and deal with post from people reporting problems for bugs which are already fixed in the latest release. As the manager of an IT support dept, I know that I always like our customer to be running on the latest release; it's a pain when when our engineers have to spend time diagnosing known (and fixed) faults.

Therefore I also agree with ShiningDragon that (with GBPVR being free), we all need to do everything we can to further the cause and be prepared to risk some system stability by running the latest version in order to help iron out any defects.

And if that isn't sitting on the fence, I don't know what is! :-)

I completely understand sub.
I read and closed this topic several times because I knew wording a reply would be next to impossible. And I also like staying comfortably in the middle of the fence!
I’m sure you know how much I appreciate your program and I hope I didn’t come off sounding critical in any way.
