First time trying to make a htpc, so sorry if this is a newbie question

I have 2 PVR150MCE cards. I installed one with these settings (I named it PVR150 Digital):

Capture Card Type: Hauppauge PVR150MCE
Country: USA
Board Number: Capture Device #1
Source: Fixed-Channel, External Tuner
Tuning: Cable
Constant Channel: 3

Not sure if this matters, but it was installed in the lowest pci slot. With just this one card in, everything worked fine, no problems with recording, playback, the ir blaster, etc. Then I put in the second card in the pci slot just above the first one. Running XP Home and both show up under device manager. The second one I named PVR150 Analog to view basic cable channels and it has these settings:

Capture Card Type: Hauppauge PVR150MCE
Country: USA
Board Number: Capture Device #2
Source: Internal Tuner
Tuning: Cable

Ran the DeviceTypeCheck utility, it labeled the cards as #1 and #2. With the 2 cards, I did have to switch the cables going into the tuners and then it worked like it did before (also read in the wiki that it would record from #1 first, then #2). The problem I'm having is that after setting a channel to record, I can't watch a basic cable channel; I get the "No tuners are available" message. This is the log from the DeviceTypeCheck:

12:06:31.625 INFO Log started
12:06:31.625 VERBOSE ECP interface found

12:06:31.625 INFO Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture: model 26582
12:06:31.640 VERBOSE ECP interface found

12:06:31.640 INFO Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture: model 26582
12:06:31.656 VERBOSE FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture
12:06:31.656 ERROR Failed to find requested device: Hauppauge PVR150 (instance 3)

I'm guessing (hoping?) that the log means it found 2 devices and the error was caused when it tried to find a third device. I brought out a smaller tv, hooked it up to the cable for the basic cable and it works fine.

So I know the cable signal works, and XP Home shows both tuners with no problems/conflicts with either. Would appreciate any help in getting gbpvr to use the second tuner.

Thanks

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

What EPG source are you using?

Correct.

I am not sure if this will help but I will share with you my setup. I have a 150 and a 150 mce card. I have one card setup with the EPG showing only my analog channels. It is tuner 1. The other card, I have setup twice, once for digital channels coming from the composite input from the cable box (controlled by the blaster), and the other with the input from the analog cable (coax)(and controlled from GBPVR like the first card). Both of these are set as tuner 2. I then edited the epg to only allow the digital setup to use the digital channels. I also then deleted all of the digital channels from the EPG for the "card 2 analog" setup. You have to set up the EPG provider to give you all of the channels, both digital and analog, then remove what you don't need for each setup (you have to edit out the digital channels on the first card too) This way, by default it will use the first card for the analog signals and will not use the second until the first one is in use. If you pick a digital channel, it will then use the second card. It will also keep your cable box free for direct viewing while you are recording something off of your first card and you will always have 2 analog sources available, unless you are using the digital source for something.

I hope this is clear. Let me know if this helps or if you need any additional help. I will do my best to confuse you:eek:

sub: sorry, i'm a newbie, but which log files do you want? Or do you just want all the log files I have from the gbpvr folder?

soccerdad: I never thought about using the composite inputs to get 2 analog sources. I'll try that, but that's after I manage to get a picture first Smile

Also, I'm using the same EPG source for both. Didn't remove any channels for either tuners, but regardless of which channel I recorded, it always said I have no additional tuner to watch anything besides the recording.

2 other minor issues I'm having: is there a setting so that it automatically starts recording to allow for time shifting (right now I have to choose the channel, then pause it to get the time shift message)? And I can't seem to get the mini-guide to work (pressing ctrl-G doesn't seem to do anything).

Again, thank you for your help

Zip and attach all the log files. It gives me a complete picture.

and what EPG is that? zap2it/xmltv/dvb/none etc?

If you disable the live preview setting in the config app, then it'll start in timeshift mode.

Do you see any OSD? If not, it might be because you're trying to use the Cyberlink decoder with VMR. By default this decoder is not compatible with VMR, and results in no OSD being visible.

Started gbpvr, started recording a digital channel (201), then tried to watch a broadcast channel (2), got the "No tuners are available" message, stopped the recording, then zipped up all the log files from the folder.

EPG for both tuners use the same zap2it account

Thanks for your help

Do both of your capture sources have the exact same channels enabled?

yes

i'm about to do a clean install of the newest version. I'll change one of the sources to disable all the digital channels and leave only the analog channels
