I was curious what would happen if I tried a very old dongle.bin on my new H series MVP. That MVP is now dead. So if you're tempted to try really old dongle.bin files on your new MVP - dont do it...

I'm contacting Hauppauge about the problem.

You might want to check out the mvpmc wike since a lot of similar comments were being posted on the mvpmc forums about the mvpmc dongle.

The key "recovery" steps steps seem to be, load a version 3 Hauppauge MVPMediaSvc, ensure there is a dongle.bin.ver which matchs the dongle.bin in the Hauppauge Dongle folder, and wait a long time 1-5 minutes after a error before unplugging and retrying.

Have you looked at the serial output it should get interesting right after the IP information starts showing up and it decides if it should load a dongle.

I guess I want this to work for you because I'm expecting my H3 this week and I can easily load 10 different dongles when I'm in emulation mode testing. Hauppauge told Jon Gettler that there was no writing to flash so I'm a bit surprised to hear you've been able to brick yours.

Yes, this is what I'm getting. It may be just some fluke that has caused this to happen though - I'm sure I've done this numerous times in the past.

...so disregard my warning.

Yes I think there is a problem for Hauppauge somehow the root= line was removed. What dongle caused this?

Kernel command line: console=ttyS0,9600 profile=3
....
VFS: Cannot open root device "" or 00:00
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 00:00

=============================
Kernel command line: console=ttyS0,9600 profile=3 root=/dev/mtdblock5
....
VFS: Mounted root (squashfs filesystem) readonly.

I like the good news and I assume your lines match mine now too. It might be just be a question of waiting.
