Having dug for a while to figure out how to get rid of the letterbox for widescreen movies on my 16:9 widescreen tv. I was all over the wiki and the forums looking at all of the items on aspect ratio, and eventually found this post where TvShape was mentioned. Once I set that - all of the movies and standard TV were suddenly the right way on auto select and there's no need to switch aspects via F7 (or the mapped button on the remote).
Shouldn't this be either:
A) Auto-detected by the config tool and set appropriately (when possible), especially for DVI/HDMI connections where this isn't the TV out.
or
B) A little pull down box in the config app right next to windowed/fullscreen?
Note that the post linked above is the only place in either the forum or wiki where this essential setting is mentioned.
