Hello,

I have a Pioneer 50" 5040 PDP plasma in my living room.

I have an Athlon 2.2 running WinXP in my office upstairs with a wireless D-Link connection set up.

I don't want to pay a monthly subscription for a PVR service.

So, is there a way I can set up a cheap ($150) wireless PVR system to my TV without having to move my PC downstairs into the living room?

Assuming you're already using GBPVR and recording shows on your Athlon upstairs, then you can watch the recorded shows on the plasma by using a wireless MediaMVP. About $139:

Or you can get an old PC and set it up as a client using the new client/server feature that came with GBPVR .98!

I am totally new to this stuff.. I am a self-proclaimed computer geek.. have been into computer for 15 years.. but I am a total noob when it comes to this PVR stuff.. I just found out about this website today.

My upstairs computer is not hooked up for anything. It has an ATI 9700 Pro in it, with no TV tuner.

How would I set up a wireless PVR which keeps my desktop upstairs and my plasma downstairs?

I am also using a cable modem -- the same company that I get my cable TV cable from if that matters.

You mean buy an old system for cheap and set it up next to my plasma and use it as a PVR box?

My setup is similar to what you propose: Use your computer upstairs, install 1 (2 is better) video capture card(s) and a large 2nd hard drive to store your shows. Then follow the wiki to install GBPVR. I'm no geek and it was very simple. Since you already have a wireless network you can use a MediaMVP to stream your shows wirelessly from your new PVR computer upstairs to your plasma in the living room. I occasionally get interference from the home cordless phone and microwave, but it's a mometary hiccup.
