Whats s/w can i use to convert the mpeg files to dvd for subsequent burning?
I've seen stuff about converting to divx, but i want it to dvd so i can play it on a dvd player.

I've tried Cucusoft mpeg to dvd burner trial version but its not being recognised by my dvd player or on the pc.

any other ideas?

This is the way I transfer all my recorded MPEGs from the Hauppauge 250 I recorded with the GB-PVR interface. First I use TMPGEnc MPEG Editor to quickly eliminate commercials as it allows frame by frame editing and does not re-encode the video except for around the cut sections. Then I use NeroVision Express 2 to both convert the MPEG to DVD format and to burn it onto a DVD-R. I haven't put more than 1.5 hours on a disk yet, but Nero Recode is able to compress the video after its been encoded to DVD, so I shouldn't have any problems with a 2 hour movie.

Hope that helps.

Thans for the tips, the problem was down to dodgy dvd disks bought some branded ones and now working.

Currently trying out nerovision...managed to edit out commercials (quite lengthy process, but maybe just need practice), i've tried exporting back to mpg....very slow, obviously recoding whole file. I'll have to give TMPG a try.

Also tried Ulead on my laptop to convert file to dvd for later burning. Must be missing something but i thought after converting to a .vob etc structure that the subsequent burn would be quite quick (ie hard work of conversion already done), but Ulead still 'converted' file again when i later tried burning. obviously not fully understanding the whole process.

The problem is my dvd burner is on my media/gbpvr server, so i would like to offload as much as poss the heavy processing to my faster laptop, and then just burn the file on the server

any advice on good sources/links for info on efficiently managing the whole conversion and burn process??

thanks

Here's the way I do it:

1. Remove commercial breaks with the nanoPEG editor that is bundled with Hauppauge cards (very basic, but good enough for my needs).

2. Create a DVD Image with Ulead Moviefactory on my harddisk.

3. This will usually take up more space than what will fit on a dvd-r, so I then open the image in DVD Shrink (http://www.dvdshrink.org) and use it to reencode the movie at a lower bitrate. Very easy to use, as it handles all the work automatically.

4. If you have Nero installed you can burn the movie directly from DVD Shrink, otherwise you can get it to create a disk image.

The whole process takes around 30-40 minutes on my pc, much less if the movie doesn't need to be reencoded.

Just as an update. I was recording the TV at "Standard Quality" and I have noticed that the final DVD has occassional minor sound breakups and pops. I did NOT notice this when streaming the edited MPEG before converting it to DVD format. I have increased the recording to 9,000 and 324(?) audio to see if that converts better. What settings is everyone else using?
