I have just built an AOpen EPC945 htpc and installed GBPVR (with Hauppauge dvbt 500) and it worked just fine. It's the new facility for the living room. (I'll post about this later).

It comes with a VFD but only the means to use it is with MCE. It has no visible drivers but I know it is a USB device. I have tried LCDSmartie and nothing seems to drive it. What it does come with is a "mediacentersink.dll" to receive message from MCE about its status.

Now, since I don't and won't have MCE on this system, that's not much use. I can't seem to find out what make the VFD is (it's hidden behind fixed metalwork) and it doesn't show itself in Sysinfo, one possibility is to drive the MCE mediacentersink interface. So the question is - has anyone already done this? A GBPVR plug in is the obvious ideal, but a command line interface - perhaps one that was used as a test tool - would probably do. Any pointers would be gratefully accepted.

I did see this on a blog from a Microsoft guy http://www.shahine.com/omar/PermaLink,gu...269ec.aspx but that is about writing a sink rather than the other way round.

would this help?

http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/f...tion/7007/

maybe they're the drivers that you need when non-MCE...

although ive never used the facility, HIP can drive VFD displays i think. its home is byremote. ive no idea what you would need already in place for HIP to ba able to talk to the VFD though.
