hi all, just looking at this - mostly for the recursive use of the noindex.txt file (and the name of the file is now configurable).

Does anyone actually go and look at the excluded stuff? It is currently possible, but if no-one does it, then I'm proposing it goes away. It makes the changes i need to make easier.

Please let me know..cheers.

Happy new year you guys.

I'm not using the ML right now but i have. I can't speak for anyone else but i use the noindex file for all those directories i don't want to hear on a daily basis, like all my wife's musicals and show-tunes. Smile it's nice for her to see that they are there and play when she wants.

hmm, that would be a better use of collections - see the thread for Version 4.4 it explains it a bit better.

Hi

Yes I would / do look at excluded stuff

I like to keep just one folder structure with everything in it

but there are certain folders I never want music to be chosen from randomly

hence my desire to have a file which effectivly excludes a folder and anything below it from being chosen

in this case of course the name noindex.txt really is the wrong name as it still should be indexed [the name is hangover from when I originally added this functionality to the original jukebox plugin a couple of years ago when the plugin traversed the directory sturucture each time it started, building the index of tracks, hence noindex.txt seemed a logical name]

Thinking about this more you're correct the use of collections would make sense, but what I actually want to be able to do is to be able to create a file in a directory which prevents it being chosen randomly at the time either of playing or when the random selection is being made more of a noplay.txt or skip.txt rather than noindex.txt but this would make the random selection somewhat slower

My collection of music is reasonable large but includes music of mine, my wifes and my childrens and most of time I'm quite happy to hear any of it, but there are times when I want to omit sections of it so I'd like to just quickly insert a noplay.txt file with the knowledge that anything below that file wont be randomly chosen until the file is removed again

I do use collections for the likes of christmas music or very specific occasions so I suppose I want the best of both worlds Smile

hope that helps
