New HD TV

I am using an ATI 9600 in my PC. It has an HDMI out. My understanding is that you must use HDMI or component to get the higher resolutions from your video card, that an S cable won't work.

Either that or VGA cable. Also capable of high-res.

So, maybe try 848x480 if available first?

My TV won't do 1080 from the VGA cable. I suppose YMMV on that issue.
