Nope I haven't been in jail (gaol or however you're supposed to spell it!) but it's about time I did something with that shiny box that's sitting under my TV...

I've not touched my PVR for about a year and I'd actually forgotten what the components were - I had to look them up on my photo-blog thingy (was-MythTV-now-GBPVR-project).

So here's what I've got: WinTV PVR 350 and an HVR 1300, two HDD's - one system and one for video.

I originally had GBPVR working but it was let down by my poor DVB-T signal. I've now got a 100 element aerial going up which should sort that problem.

So I obviously need to update my GBPVR software; are there any problems with the latest version running my hardware?

I'm looking at buying a DVB-T card and replacing the PVR 350; is this wise?

Many thanks, p.

Welcome back.

It should be fine. The TV out on the PVR350 is a problem, but also would have been last time you visited, so I doubt you're using that.

Yes. I should point out that one user had a problem when two HVR1300 devices were in the one machine, so this might not be a good choice for your second DVB-T device, but other than that another DVB-T device should be good.

Hi sub,

I feel honored to have you reply personally Smile

You're correct about the TV out; I purchased a TV out connector for my motherboard which seems to work OK. Just thinking about buying a small LCD screen to keep in the TV cabinet as trying to work Windows thru the TV isn't very easy, I suppose some sort of remote access tool via my laptop would be cheaper? ...although it doesn't like to boot without having a monitor plugged in.. is there a way round this?

I think the PVR350 is going to be redundant so I'll probably swap it out for one of the new WinTV DVB cards... but then I doubt I'll actually need to watch and record TV at the same time so may wait a while...

humbly yours, p.

I got a nova-t-500 for myself at Christmas. Other than a few oddities (death!) coming out of standby at times (using hibernate at the moment) it seems to be working fine alongside my pvr150. A bit of a pain installing, disable ir on nova, install the nova BDA drivers first, then the pvr150 then the ir blaster stuff otherwise the 150 blaster doesn't work.
On the odd occasion when it isn't all rubbish on the box, having two recorders is handy.

Hey Martin,

Thanks for the response. That was the actual card that I had in mind, shame it's installation seems a pain Smile

...I do wander why I started this project because of all the intracacies and didn't just go out and buy sky+! I've figured out that I could've had sky+ for two years at least for the amount of money that I've spent so far (that doesn't include my time either!).

Cheers, p.

But that wouldn't be nearly as fun Wink

Hahahaha! I feel your pain! I'm glad I'm not the only one that went through the "Myth TV" experience. I actually had it working until, in my brilliance, I decided to add a pvr 150 to the box (in addition to the crappy software TV card I had). After 2 weeks of driver hell I went looking for a windows based solution. I had GBVPR up and running in several hours. Haven't looked back!

Anyway, i didn't mean to hijack this thread :o

Hi Stefan, Fun? I don't think my Mrs thought I was having fun with all the f'ing and blinding going on Wink I'm sure I did have fun at some point and it's been productive use of my time because I've learnt loads which was the original aim (I've learnt not to touch Linux for a while yet!)

Hi Flyswatta, no worries for the hijack - it's good to share our pain and know that we're not alone in the world! Wink

Know what you mean. Sometimes you can really be banging your head at a problem. But hey, that's what some people consider to be fun Wink

A pre-built solution is better for some people, granted. But it's also less easy to make it behave the way *you* want it to. Not to mention if you want to record more than two shows at a time. Or to use it in several rooms...
