Hello everybody,

I figured there would be some other people on this forum with security cameras in addition to their PVRs.

I'm looking for some suggestions and your thoughts on software you've tried.

I've tried Informant, LuxRiot, and Argus so far with dismal results. I have read about the following, but haven't tried them yet for various reasons. Digivue and Milestone.

I'm only trying to get basic functionality with one camera sans PTZ. If I can get the input to even show then other issues pop up with frame rates and difficulties recording.

I like the look of Argus and it seemed promising but I can't preview the camera even with a thumbnail showing and can't record either. The frustrating part is that support is totally lacking w/o even a forum for users to help each other. As if I'm going to send them a request that will likely not even be replied to.

I don't know how these dudes expect to actually get paid for their software if it's so damn hard to set up and they don't want to make support easy.

Thanks in advance for any input.
Cheers

I had good results with http://www.icode.co.uk/icatcher/products/sentry.html
free 21 day trial. Seems to work real easy and picked up my pvr150 straight off.

Thanks for that Martin. I'm looking into it now.

I wish I was using a PVR150. It would probably make life easier. Most of my problems may be due to the fact that I'm using a BT878 type card. I did successfully get the btwincap drivers installed though.

Cheers

I'm fairly sure when I first tried it some years ago at work that we used an old wintv-pci card with the 878 series chip.

I am looking at doing the same thing. I currently have 2cameras on the out side of the house but they are only plugged into a RF modulator that broadcast on the cable TV in the house so I can change the channels on any TV and check out the cameras individually. I would like to also change it to record with motion detections. A friend of mine had a company put in a system into his house running on Windows XP so I might just purchase the software and do it my self but it does look good.

I didn't see where you mentioned which camera you're using, but I would happily recommend you take a look at go1984 software:
http://www.go1984.de/en/product-overview...rison.html

I built a security camera server last year with the enterprise version of this software. Currently it has 24 IP cameras connected. Each camera can be configured individually (set the capture rate (per camera) anywhere from 1 frame every 10 seconds up to the cameras' max capture rates, set motion detection sensativity and 'paint' areas in the camera's field of vision to pay closer attention to or ignore, configure revolving storage, etc etc). It was extremely easy to setup and maintain. When I had questions, I had a response usually within a day or two using their online ticket system.
MY PVR:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Hardware: Silverstone LC13-E, Athlon II 250, Asrock 785GMH, 2GB Corsair RAM, 250GB WD HDD, 1TB WD Black, Hauppauge PVR-150 MCE tuner (s-video to Dish STB), HDHomeRun (ATSC x2), MCE2004 for Rx, USB-UIRT for Tx, Sony VL600 Remote, 36" Sony Wega HD CRT on DVI to embedded ATI HD4200.
TV Service: Dish Network and Antenna Pics 'n Details

also found a company where you could do kind of like a kit build but have never used it.

Thanks for the input.

Yah I didn't mention the camera because it's not worth mentioning. Baby steps.

Keep it coming. I'm digging all this new stuff to read.
