I want to upgrade my GBPVR to the most current release. What steps do I need to take to make sure that I do not have to re-do all my settings, all my add-ons, etc?

In theory you just download and run the GBPVR09912.msi file and it'll automatically retain all your settings. Its pretty reliable with very few people ever encountering problems doing this.

This would also depend on from which version you're upgrading, right? Upgrading from a very old version would probably be more error-prone, I'd assume.

True, if you're upgrading from a release prior to v0.96 then you might have problems.

For those of you who upgrade from very old release...
I did it some time ago (skipped 1 year of releases) and had great trouble in getting everything OK.
In hind sight:
1/ do export of database, such that you can later import.
==> if you forget: use Video-library to still watch your old recs.
2/ you may try an upgrade, but all my trouble eventually had to do with plu-ins: plugins i was not even using!
my advice: trying to be smart costs a lot of time, if it doesn't work go for (3).
3/
So: I would recommend a fresh install in an empty directory with a blue skin.
=> you may move your old version to an other directory and re-install skins & plugins 1-by-1; but i would go for a working basic setup as a starter.
After a full evening of trouble, doing like that was a piece of cake.
4/ forget about scheduled recordings. Its not that much time to redo them anyway.

Yep... I am not too worried about redoing these, but I have 2 years worth of *watched* data that I really don't want to lose - with a kid and all the shows recorded for a kid, I really don't want to get all 1000 shows recorded *again*.

Anywoo still on the fence on my upgrade.

If you think a "stepping-stone" upgrade will help, upgrading via some of the older versions as if you had followed the upgrade path; I might be able to find some of the interim versions for you. PM me if it's relevant.

Anyway - you can always save a copy of the entire GBPVR program directory somewhere else. Then you can easily switch back should anything fail...

One word of caution: Be aware of which installation directory the installation application suggests and make sure you always upgrade in your existing directory.

Updated today to 99.12 from 99.05 (yes, I usually wait...) - update ignored ALL my config settings, just gave me defaults. First time this has happened, doing an update. Just finished manually updating custom settings from my backup. Seems like a lot of new entries in config.

I do try to make sure that settings are retained during upgrades, but there is always the occasional person that looses them. I'm not sure why. It'll be some file in-use at upgrade time or something like that.
