guide2j

I can't figure out how to display less hours. My guide looks nothing like the screenshot in Guide2j. Any idea how to fiddle these things?

Looks like you've already boosted the default skin-horiz.xml MinuteDraw item from 180 to 240. That makes things so compact the hardcoded increment of 30 minutes between displayed times becomes very tight. Here's a version of XGuide with a new skinnable item "minutesBetweenTimes" for those who like to cram more into one screen.

From my guide2j\skin-horiz.xml
<SpecialElement name="Guide" loc="70,58" metadata="true" visibleChannels="7" channelRowHeight="38" showNavigation="false" borderWidth="2" rounded="false" showChannelIcons="true" showChannelNumberAlway="true" showRecordingBar="true" MinutePixels="3.5" MinuteDraw="180" minutesToMove="30"/>

I never touched the files in that dir. No matter what I changed MinuteDraw to, it was always 4 hours of guide data.

Are you sure you're using XGuide as the image you have looks an awful lot like the regular guide? It's installed by the xrecord installer (no longer distributed separately). Make sure it's selected in the config tool's plugin tab (also unselect the regular tv guide just to make sure).

My mistake, it seems XGuide isn't the guide I get while watching Live TV. Is there any way to make XGuide or TV Listings plugin a video overlay? Or how to configure the video overlay one? Is it one that comes with GB-PVR, because I don't recall installing a video overlay guide plugin.

There is a guide used in the OSD built into gbpvr. It is the live-skin.xml under the TVGuide folder.

No choice to control # of minutes displayed. I looked at skin\Basic\tv guide\skin.xml. Is there a plugin that replaces this default?

You can set the number of minutes displayed in the normal TV Guide in the System -> Settings screen.
