EWA Won't Run Under User Account

I just created a user account to run the GB-PVR Recording Service under. I've given this account the following rights:
- Access this computer from the network (client/server setup)
- Log on as a service

I've also given it Full Control on the C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\ directory as well as the \recordings\ and \livetv\ directories.

I can start the recording service just fine under this user account, but I can't get EWA to start. I get the following lines in the log file (attached):

Error starting webserver: Could not load file or assembly 'GBPVRRecordingService, Version=1.0.2614.27227, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

When I run the recording service under LocalSystem, this error is not logged, and EWA works just fine.

What other right does the user account need to launch EWA?

This may be a question for sub.....I don't recall anyone ever trying to piece out what access the web admin needs......it is standard to run it either as a local system account or even as an admin accoutnt.

I see.. since I'm using a client/server setup, I read that I needed to run the recording service on the server under the same user account and password as the user account that is used to log on to the client machine. This way, I can access the shares on the server without having to enter a password (i.e. seamless). I'm not sure why I get the "cannot find the file specified" error, the user account has Full Control over the entire gbpvr directory.

Are you trying to access EWA on the client machine? If so, I don't think that will work......you should be accessing EWA on the Host Machine.

No, I don't have EWA enabled on the client. I'm trying to access it on the host, but I can't get it to run under the user credentials.

I do not have the client setup on my network....but I do access shares on my other machines.....but I do not have the GBPVR Recording service running under the user account....it runs under the local system account.

You do however want to create the same user id and passoword on the host machine as the client machine and give it access to the GBPVR directory.

You should be able to have GPBVR running under local system account and get seemless access to the share so long as the userid and password that is on the client is setup on the host machine and you have assigned the userid to that share with read access......

Have you tried this yet? Should be just setting the recording service to run under local system admin since you indicated you already created the account that you are using on the client machine.

Hmm good point. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the recording service needed to run under the same user account as the client PC.. but now that you've pointed it out, I don't see any reason why that needs to be the case. As long as the user account exists on both the server and client to access the shares, it shouldn't make any difference what context the recording service runs under.
