they may have been uninstalled, but not cleaned from the registry, or wherever directshow does its looking, and when they cant be found their merit is dropped to 0.

just a thought

I was using radlight filtermanager and when I checked with directshow filter manager the 0's problem didn't show, so I reinstalled radlight and it now shows merits correctly.

Anyway, although I've got a few minor problems with playback of certain files under GBPVR, Winamp and VLC, I've decided to go back to basics and do a serious bit of study into directshow, then look at my problems from a position of knowledge - I've always done it that way and it seems to work for me. In my experience, problems that go away on their own tend to come back on their own.

So I recorded 3 minutes of mpeg music video and started looking at it with Gspot - see what filters are in the graphs it builds - what the filters do - what options they have - how to change them - you know the sort of thing. I've found a couple of things I don't understand yet, but once I do, I'll look in GBPVR's logs to try to figure out what graphs it uses for the file, then same thing for VLC and so on - should be fun Big Grin

Just so you know, VLC is not based on Directshow, so doesnt use any Directshow filters or graphs.

Thanks - I didn't know that, but that will be useful, since VLC gives me fewest problems and hopefully, there will be info in it's logs which relate to the codecs it is using.

When you pointed me at 'directshow merit' as a way to go you also said that the topic was a bit complicated - tell me, did you have to go to college to achieve your mastery of understatement, or were you just born with it Smile

Remember, to sub it is "a bit complicated". To the rest of us mere mortals, it's a "bit" more than that Wink

No matter how complicated it is, I'll get the better of it (or at least get an honorable draw). I've been subjugating machines to my will for a more than a few years and they sure ain't going to start taking the p1$$ out of me now... Wink
