AVI I do the same thing. so Xvid or Divx get automatically set to 720x480. On the none digital coax MVP I have to switch the audio from 48000hz to 44100hz.

The problem with this is that 352 x 288 is not widescreen and you are adding PAL/NTSC conversions into an already complicated mix of resolution and aspect ratio.

The question of transcoding is all really a question of personal preference (with a bit of WAF thrown in) on maintaining ratios or eliminating black bars.

Talk about WAF!

Well anyway, I've released a version of ZProcess2 that should work well for NTSC people for the moment. PAL Math coming soon...

To reiterate here's what you need...

MVP in 16x9 mode (use Hauppauge software)

Install ZProcess. Follow instructions here...
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utili...ocess#toc3

Copy the two files in THIS zip to the ZProcess folder...

Run ZProcess.
  • When it starts it asks to install itself. Say yes, but you do not have to restart the server yet...
  • On the transcode tab,
  • select the 'Trans2MVP' Template (left column)
  • select MEncoder as your preferred Transcoder
  • Make Final Output 640 x480 (Though this will be overridden later)
  • Press the Save button

Run ZProcess2
  • When it starts it will ask to remove references, Click Yes. Don't restart. Close
  • Rerun ZProcess2. It will ask to register itself into GB-PVR. Click Yes, and this time let it restart the GB-PVR recording service.
  • Click Config
  • Select 'Auto' from the drop down list. Close the window, close the program...

Now, when you select an AVI on the MVP, ZProcess will prepare and calculate what needs to be done and then launch MEncoder with the correct parameters...

If it's a 4x3 AVI, it will be a 720x480 MPG with the 4x3 Aspect Ratio switch set. This should tell your TV that it should Pillar Box the video...

If it's a letterbox, it will be a 720x480 MPG with the 16x9 Aspect Ratio switch set. This should tell your TV that it should Full Screen your video

If its a 2.35:1 video (wide screen movie like Star Wars), it will be a 720x480 MPG with the 16x9 Aspect Ratio switch set. This should tell your TV that it should Full Screen your video. But there will still be Top and bottom padding. The Movie will appear as letterbox

I hope this works with your TV OK...
