Well I am one of the lucky ones that has had a PVR350 that has always worked with the builds and I have never had a problem with it. I closed my eyes and hoped as I installed the new build, that I, once again would skirt fate and be able to work.

Dead.

Fair enough. This now allows me to address some issues. Do I, (shudder at this thought) just get the DVR from the cable company or press on to bigger and better things. So this leads me to a couple of questions that are in my head before moving on. I am sure they have been asked and answered more than once but a quick search didn't return my results.

I currently have:

1.5 ghz
512 ram
2 PVR 150
1 PVR 350 (rest in pieces)

I was thinking of going with the HVR 1600 but should I consider the 1800?

What happened with the whole Zap2it! problem? Is there a fix if I do upgrade and everything will still work fine?

I was thinking of dumping the evil Comcast Empire and going with a DirectTV HD package. Will the new hardware setup and PVRX2 work with that setup?

All of these questions and more are running through my head so any help will be appreciated.

If GBPVR and myself must part ways it has been a great few years.

you might still be able to use the 350 as a capture device... you just wont be able to use its TV-out, since the new UI is rendered using directx
so all you would really NEED to get is a video card with TV-out. probably something kinda beefy, think radeon 9800 or up (I havnt tried my 9600 with the new UI yet.. so we will have to see how that goes)

zap2it is going away, this is a fact, there are ways to use yahoo to get the guide in XMLTV format, and thats the only concrete solution so far, ther have been some hacks to use the MCE EPG, and TitanTV, but they are just that, hacks. and there is the possibility of a paid EPG service coming down the pipe, but there are no promises about it.
alot more should be known about this when the time gets closer (which it rapidly is)

You will be able to use the 350 for capture. I lost my TV out several versions ago. Still continued to run my two 350s as capture devices, and one still in production working fine on the new version. Had to drop the second one due to lack of free PCI-slots...Sad

I don't think you need to make much of an investment on your video. I'm running GBPVR on two different machines - one with high-end hardware, but the second has five year old parts. There's really not much of a difference between way the UI drives on either one. The older box has an All in Wonder Radeon 32 (which is only being used for video out). There may be eventually be additions or plug-ins added that will trip it up later, but it seems to work fine for now.

Yeah, my 9600 works fine with the new interface, no tearing etc.
