What's the point anyway?
Meedio have been sold to Yahoo and the development have stopped...
OK, the community seems to live on awhile longer though.

Thanks a lot guys. It's good to know the community is so helpful...takes me back a few years in the pre-Meedio days. Anyhow, I have a few n00b questions regarding gb-pvr in general as I am up to switching over from Meedio completely if I can, however:

1) I see there is a video library section. Can I have several different video library sections limited to a folder or folders per section?

2)If I have a tv show section, can I import data from tv.com or similar places to have a nice tv show library?
-can I mark shows as watched or unwatched?

3)I would assume this already exists but, can I have a movie section that can do all of the following:

-import imdb data automatically
-import posters both automaticaly and manually
-playback movie trailers for both the actual movie and other trailers at random during movie playback
-playback multiple files for the same movie (i.e. I have MovieName CD1.avi and MovieName CD2.avi and it knows to just play these back to back)
-can I filter views in the movie section so I can tell what movies have been added in say the last day, last week, or last month for example?
4) Can I generally change the layout of the menu system so that I can have subdirectroes so to speak and remove items as needed?:
Watch
-TV
-Livetv
-TV Show Library
-Movies
-Youtube
-Home Movies
-Kids Movies
-Sesame Street
-Baby Einstein
-Comedy
-Comedy Central presents
-Misc
-SNL
-Listen
-CD
-Music Library
-XM Online
-Internet Radio
-Music Videos (Yahoo streaming)
-Games
-Emulators

5) I'm not sure if I can talk about this, but, does anyone have any suggest on dvb-s and channels scanning? Is there a way to change how liong the scan takes so it picks them all up? What about disecq settings that work for you? What about plugins for dvb-s? Where do they go? How do I activate them?

Thanks so much guys!!!

The community lives on at MeediOS.com and is still going. I am just exploring the alternatives and like how active this community is. I hope this is a fit.

wtg Wrote:I must admit, I find the questions a bit confusing. If Meedio is working for you, why do you want gb-pvr? What is it that gb-pvr has that makes you want to use it for Live TV, and what is it that Meedio has that gb-pvr doesn't? Just curious.

I've explored Meedio recently and I can give you my take on these questions. First off, GBPvr is much more advanced in regards to TV capture card support and scheduling. GBPvr also allows for multiple lineups whereas Meedio does not. From what I've read, the Meedio TV module was introduced only a short time before it was sold to Yahoo.

In regards to what Meedio has that GBPvr doesn't, the first thing that comes to mine is the gorgeous skins. IMHO it is the best looking PVR frontend handsdown. On top of that, there are more than 200 plugins available with more being added. It's really pretty, really.

The Meedio project is far from dead. There's a very active community that's keeping the old product alive (Meedio) and a team of developers that are working on a new product (MeediOS). The MeediOS product is an open source 'rewrite' of Meedio which is supposed to be backward compatible with all previous Meedio plugins as well as having the advantage of having the core updated. The plan for TV is to use the TVServer3 open source product that is being created at MediaPortal to handle all TV functions. As of yet, there has been no releases of the MeediOS product.

To sum it up as to why someone would want to use Meedio I have two words: eye candy.

Wow. I didn't know that Meedio was still going. I gave up on it after the yahoo buy out. I loved the way that it handled music but not how it handled TV. I decided to go to hardware encoding for TV recording and seeing as I bought a PVR-350 I wanted to make use of the hardware decoded output. At the time I found only Myth and GBPVR that supported it. I found GBPVR to be the better of the two. I guess that's a mute point since it's output is no longer supported (I'm looking at new video cards).
Although the core "Music Library" isn't flash, the MusicLibrary2 and MusicPlayer plugins are both quite good.
I was a bit worried about GBPVR not being open source after getting burnt by Meedio but I've been more than happy with my decision. Core product development seems faster and more focused than a lot of open source projects. The community is great and you get definitive answers from the developer.
As for the eye-candy; the new interface is IMO as good as Meedio (from what I remember of it). AFAIK it's still early days in it's development so it will potentially be even better.
In other words - Jump in. The water's fine.

Hi, I am new to GB-PVR and a fairly long time user of Meedio. I certainly like the developement over here but it is not yet as configurable as meedio but has the TV functionality much better than meedio.

Any way, I have integrated GB-PVR into Meedio. Initially I was using the TV function but with Zap2it gone and I owned a BTV copy I now use that for TV scheduling and recording. Meedio has for the most part just become a front end to launch apps. I do use a program module to launch directly to the Net Radio and YouTube and am here because my YouTube vids don't load now.

I do not use the command lines but have a config XML I could send that I got from another Meedio user that used GBPVR to schedule all his recordings. Just Email me and I'll send them.

I use an ATI remote and a Haupapauge. Below is what is in iremote.INI that I use the power button to essentially alt tab and minimize GBPVR to go back to meedio
