Hi guys, first post here. This is an awesome community and WAY MORE HELPFUL then the mythtv community!

My problem is that i bought 2 complete systems to run Mythtv on, Myth was a pain to setup and I ended up finding the wonder that is known as GB-PVR! Well, my two systems use the microsoft 1039 remote (with no colored buttons)
and I desperately want to use a music plugin to build playlists with the remote. However, seeing as a lot of the plugins use the colored buttons and I don't have them, is there any possible way to program the following keys on the remote "#,*,clear, enter" (the bottom 4 keys) to act as the colored keys. On my basement system, this is not a problem as i have a keyboard to use the shortcuts, however on my main living room system, a keyboard is not an option because my wife wants it to look nice....go figure. Any help in this matter would be very much appreciated. Thank you nice people!

If you need system specs or any other information I will gladly provide.

Once again I would like to express my gratitude towards the awesome people here and in particular Sub for providing such a sweet system.

Sorry, all you can really do is ask the developers of those plugins to try to avoid using the color keys.

I've purposefully avoided building features in the core GB-PVR app that rely on these keys because I know they're not aways available.

As one who has done exactly what you don't want....i.e uses the coloured buttons quite extensively. I find it quite difficult with the number of buttons left to add functionality.

Once you strip away the left, right, up, down, ok, skip, rev, ff, rw and the numbers, there are not a lot of buttons left to play with.

But I do remember having a conversation with sub about such problems :- that some remotes don't have the coloured buttons.

The wiki has this information on what type of programming is possible for the varaious types of MCE remotes: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Hardware/MCERemotes

I don't have an mce remote but before I learned how to modify the irremote.ini file for my Hauppauge remote to make the remote buttons do different things, I thought I needed a program called HIP. At that time, I received the instructions in this thread from member TON http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post159376 which may help you. Even though the instructions describe how to program the coloured buttons, maybe the same thing will work with other buttons provided that they aren't being used for other functions.

Yep, tell me about it. Its a daily struggle I go through - and I'm sure you can understand why I often forego requested features in favour of keeping the UI simple. For the most part I try to make the entire app controllable with up/down/left/right/enter/escape.

When the north american MCE remotes removed the colour buttons, I knew there would soon be more than 50% of users that did not have these buttons, so I stopped building any dependence on these keys.

I messaged Jeff (creator of the music plugin I like) to add the functionality you talk about Sub, like only using up down left right and enter. Thats basically all i would need to make his plugin or many other music plugins I like work perfectly for what i want. In theory I could just buy another remote but after building two systems and adding other things to them i want as well as beefing up my server with huge harddrive space to support them, I don't think my wife will go for any more money spent...especially on an uglier remote.

I downloaded Hip last night and was actually pretty intimidated. Eventghost sounds a lot easier to use, i will be trying it....the idea is to get my basement machine doing what i want before I go live on the one my wife uses.....gotta keep the woman happy.

now even the ir32.exe program that comes with Hauppauge remotes works with these remotes also, and lots of help configuring it for gb..Smile

hey guys, since the gb ui isn't active while your plugin is up, can't you use any buttons except the main menu/esc/vol and ch. etc? aren't the number keys available? plus previous channel, record, text and sub/cc?
[i like to use sub/cc/# for aspect, should leave one for user stuff]

i assume the vol is used globally, and skip? ff? ch? not sure..
gb won't care if you hit record while in a plugin..the plugin has to handle it..
correct?

For those of you with the MCE remotes with no colored buttons, desperately searching on here for help, do a search for event ghost, download it and the updates, search the forum and download the premade setups for gbpvr or pvrx2 (they are both available) and set it up with the guide on the wiki. It all works and it works well! In about 20 minutes I had event ghost emulating the colored buttons thru my remote and working flawlessly. Thank you to all the people who pointed me in the right direction. I will be adding to this topic when i get home from work with a complete set of links for everything you need. Thank you very much guys and gals, my settop box is one step closer to perfection!
