Currently I have a Hauppauge 250 card and I am using GBPVR with a MediaMVP. All is good. However, I want to build an HDPC since the MediaMVP will not support HD. Much confusion abounds. I figure that I will use either an HVR-1600 or 1800 so I can get away with a less expensive CPU. I also planned on using an Antec nsk2400 case. It has two 5.25 external bays so that if, in the future, I want to play both kinds of HD DVDs, I have some place to put the drives. I planned on running Vista Home Premium. Now we get to the question. If I have VHP, should I run GBPVR? If I am only going to run VHP, then I probably should use an Antec Fusion case since it has IR that is supported by Vista. But that case is $90 more expensive. The 1600 comes with a remote that is supported with GBPVR, so that would allow only using the nsd2400. I would rather not spend more than is necessary but then again I don't want to be short sighted in my decision.

Guidance is appreciated.

I have got the same case, OS and card with the remote and I've got GBPVR and they all work well together,(it is still noisier than the mvp), so that package really shouldn't be a concern. For me the real trouble is I only have two channels of HD content using OTA ATSC which means I have to disable QAM. If money is a concern, I'd suggest trying to find out what content you will be watching so you aren't disappointed.

Martin, thanks. I plan on just doing OTA ATSC. We are one of six families in the USA that does not have cable or satellite. :-) When you say that you have the same case, do you mean the nks2400? And it may be noisier than the MVP but if you cannot use the MVP for HD recordings, then that is pretty much a mute point.

Yes I have the NSK 2400.
