Using the latest recommended dongle I found that emulation mode does not always work. If, after rebooting, I choose emulation mode, GBPVR starts no probs.. If I first go to, say mclient or files, then go back and try emulation mode it just goes through the WOL and Ping attempts without success. I then need to reboot the mvp to get emulation mode working again. Is there something I can do to isolate the problem?
Regards,
Hasso

Since there is no real method to tell GBPVR to close down cleanly I can see this happening from time to time. I'm assuming by reboot you mean powering off with the green power button which really isn't a problem for mvpmc, in fact mvpmc is still running but all the threads are shut down and linux should be running just fine.

If you are starting the GBPVR server manually instead of with an autostart the problem could be worse. Also be aware that you might need to wait more than twenty seconds after leaving gbpvr for it to be ready to take you again. If you want you can duplicate the emulation mode WOL power off/on emulation mode sequence and send me all the MVP-PVR logs, but I really don't think this is a problem.

or if you start 2 servers, there will always be one that's ready...Big Grin
takes a bit more resources, but not much..
just a suggestion...

No, by reboot I mean I choose the "reboot" menu option on the mvpmc to reload everything, including the mvpmc dongle.bin. Powering off with the green button and then powering on with the green button does not help. Waiting 20 seconds or even 5 minutes or starting 2 gbpvr mvp servers (as suggested) does not help either.

As I indicated earlier:
1. If I do a reboot and choose emulation mode right away, then GBPVR starts OK.
2. If I do a reboot and choose mclient for example, and then go back to the main mvpmc menu and choose emulation mode, then I get the WOL and Ping messages, and this tries for a while and then falls back to the main mvpmc menu.

In the second instance, I don't think I've even "used" the GBPVR server as yet. It should still be availbale for mvpmc to use. or am I missing something?
Regards,
Hasso

From an emulation mode perspective there isn't much difference between reloading and the green button. I can go in and out of the filesystem mclient and emulation mode quite easily only occasionally needing the green power.

I'd say the issue is with a firewall or your DHCP. Perhaps you are getting network conflicts with the mvp or you gbpvr doesn't have a static ip. Next time mvpmc won't connect to gbpvr telnet to the mvp from the gbpvr server and issue the command

netstat -nt

to ensure the ip addresses are correct.

OK I'll give that a go tonight... but GBPVR has a static IP, the MVP gets its address from DHCP (but always the same one as its tied to the MAC address).

Are you running --startup mclient by any chance? I saw in your other post you use Slimserver. If so you might try removing it. Posting you config file would be helpful too.

No I'm not. I did have it at one time, but removed it in an effort to resolve the problem.

I'll see if I can get it tonight.
