I hooked up an MVP the other day. All I did is change the server setting in config to 1 like the wiki says. It played recorded HDTV fine using the Cyberlink mux.

Unfortunately, this was then the first time I realized it can't transcode MKV files on the fly. Blah.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

A couple of points here,

1. As far as I know the Cyberlink mux doesn't do anything that would allow you to view HD on the mvp. However it is possible that setting MvpTranscodeAllVideo to true would all this I don't understand the impact of this tag.

2. Sub did make a minor update to allow mkv transcoding

I've been seeing lots of different ways to get my .ts (Hauppage's HD PDR) files to play on my MVP. Some of them on the fly and others thru the transcode but none of them has worked so far.

Is this dependant on the decoder/mux used? If so, I'm using Arcsoft and I tried all mux options. Could someone help out?

Thx in advance.

jmarc, I myself have never found a way to do this with the sample files I have.

The simple solutions are

- (if your cable box offers it) recording from component to the HD PVR and svideo to an analog card like the PVR 150 simultaneously, splitting the audio.

- purchase a PCH or NMT compatible device with an svideo/component out.

As for on-the-fly transcoding I don't think you will find that on the current generation of PC's unless people figure out how to use the GPU on the video card to help.

I am also going to try to use my old MVP for my SD television.

I was going to try the ATI mux since I had heard about some issues with the Cyberlink, but now I will first try the ts mux and set the MvpTranscodeAllVideo switch to "true"

Sub,
Do you know if this will allow the MVP to show 1080i live television?

No it wont. This transcoding stuff only works with files that already exist, not those that are still recording (which is the case with live tv).
