Re: Auto Record...

Could you publish a brief overview of how Auto Record works, what triggers the search, do you do any logging, etc?

I created two Auto Record searches yesterday and set Auto Record on in the config tab. The searches were for two programs which I already knew were in the EPG, but I had not yet scheduled to record. I checked Manage Recordings today, and both programs had been found and scheduled for recording - however, one of the programs had been scheduled twice - same channel, same time.

Off to work for now, will have a closer look tonight.

Alex

EDIT: so now it's tonight and I've had another look...

When I said
Quote:The searches were for two programs which I already knew were in the EPG, but I had not yet scheduled to record.
I should have made it clear that I was talking about two 'episodes' - I had already manually scheduled all the episodes of the same programs except for the two I mentioned. When I peeked in gbpvr.db3 I saw that these manually scheduled recordings had all been doubled up - so it may be that I had also manually scheduled the duplicate episode mentioned in the OP (bad hair day yesterday), but I'll find out tomorrow.

It looks like one of these problems that only I can find... Still be nice know a bit more about how Auto Record works... Wink

My guess is that it has to do with Manual recordings....manual recordings are just that....manual......unrelated to what is in the EPG. So when you schedule a manual recording GBPVR has no idea what program it really is....it just knows you want to start recording at a certain time on a certain channel for a certain amount of time.

When you schedule from the EPG there is associated programme information that is stored with the recording. So GBPVR actually knows what programme you are recording.

Auto-Record process:
Auto record pulls all the EPG info for the amount of time you have set in the Config for Auto-Search EPG Days.

It then looks at every programme on every channel that is returned for that time period.

If a programme in the search matches your search criteria a call is made into GBPVR to see if the programme is already set to record. If it is set to record nothing happens. If it is not already set to record the programme is set to record.

In your case....when the auto-record checks with GBPVR to see if the matched programme is already set to record it does not find anything....because it can not match against something that was set as a manual recording.

Hope this makes sense and helps.

By 'manually scheduled' I meant that I did a search in EWA, selected the programs to record and clicked the Record Selected button. The programs which have already been recorded twice all show in Manage Recordings with full program details - the pending programs which are scheduled to record twice also show full program details in Manage Recordings. In my recordings folder, the duplicate recordings have identical filenames, except one of each is suffixed with '-2'
The duplicate programs also show in gbpvr.db3 with the same programme_oid. If fact the only differences between the duplicates are recno, oid and capture_source_oid and in the case of the already recorded programs, the filename. could this be something to do with having two recording sources (Nova-T 500)?

It does indeed - what triggers EWA to carry out the Auto-Record process - is it time or event based?

I'll have to see if I can duplicate this behavoir.....I have 3 tunners running......

As for the trigger the auto-record (as well as auto-search) execute 1 time per day when you access EWA so long as it is one hour past your daily EPG update.

So...if you accessed ewa today and it is at least 1 hour since your epg update the auto-record and search will execute and flag that it ran for the day......if you access ewa and it has not been at least an hour since your epg update then it will not execute nor set the flag that it ran yet today.

Thanks for that - I was planning to try recreating the problem myself... Does any of the Auto-Record activity get logged anywhere?

Nope...no significant logging.....it will log that the process itself is being executed but not the details of the whole process....

That said.....I found the problem......

The patch is attached....just stop your recording service and load this out and restart.....this should fix the problem.
